Comments: | OK, so it means "when used with verb in the affirmative, it's especially common as どうも~しまう" I get (now) what the note is trying to convey, but considering the sense is most commonly accompanied by a negated verb (daijr even makes a note of it: "(多く打ち消しの語を伴って)"), I think it's overly confusing. Out of the 10 example sentences for this sense in daij and GG5, only 2 are not with negated verbs, but neither is in the form of どうも~しまう(gg5 "どうもねえ" and daijr "どうも失敗ばかりする") |

Comments: | sense 5, again: "in positive sense, esp. どうも〜しまう" What does "in positive sense" mean here? _ Also, the odd character seems to get inserted whenever a line is too long to be displayed without an enter break in the "meanings" box, for me. This never happened before, might it have something to do with a recent update or something? (I'm using Chrome/Win 10) |

Comments: | Shouldn't there be some explicit mention of the computer sense (as used in my example sentence)? The definition seems to me to make it look like it's a noun only: paste (food, adhesive, etc.) . In this context, "vs" might suggest to a user that, as a verb, it might mean "to glue something". . Genius WaEi, for example, has the following in its entry for pe-suto: pe-suto suru: paste (tadoushi) (conpyu-ta) [Sorry - no Japanese IME on the computer I'm using] |

Comments: | I'm finding this one very tough. The decision here also affects 2/ツー, 3/スリー, etc. In theory ワン could be added to the 一 entry as a reading of "1". I tried it out to see if it wasn't too messy, and find that we can't restrict the reading as "1" isn't a kanji. My inclination is to keep them apart, cross-reference them, and add a note that "1" can be read ワン. I'll do that and we can see if it looks OK. |

|
4. | A* 2013-02-23 04:26:59 Rene Malenfant <...address hidden...>

3. | A* 2013-02-22 09:10:57 Marcus Richert
Comments: | the "to point out" sense is "sense 2: daijr: [4] 指さし教える。 daijs: 2 指などでさして教える。「地図を出して―・す」" so if it's to be kept, maybe it should instead be clarified as "to point out (with one's finger); to point to" |

2. | A* 2013-02-22 07:09:08 Rene Malenfant <...address hidden...>
Comments: | The rationale behind the sense splitting is not apparent to me from the English glosses, though it perhaps might be with some further elaboration. However, I suggest basically splitting into "show" vs. "indicate" as in New Century WaEi: [1][v5s,vt] to show;to display;to demonstrate;to express (an emotion, opinion, etc.);to give (an example) [2][v5s,vt] to point out;to indicate; to read (e.g. clock) |

|
Comments: | Image search for: チュッ , for example. There's an obvious implication about the type of kiss here too. This isn't making-out. It's one quick smooch. This has in interesting implication for "kissing" as a gloss, because in English this implies a prolonged activity. "They were kissing". There's no way "kissing" = "a peck on the cheek". The ッ makes this deliberately more abrupt than the xref ちゅー. I know you'll have thoughts on the glosses, I've just thrown out some ideas for consideration. Do we need separate entries for チュッ and チュッと? I don't think so... I personally don't think と can be considered part of this "word", as convenient as that makes it for a [vs] tag. I do see we have many [on-] terms that include と, some of which probably shouldn't. Also note, する seems more common without と than with. And if チュッ precisely meant "kiss" then this should be redundant: チュッとキス 934 Just saw "チュッ" as a subtitled sound effect accompanying an air-blown kiss 投げキッス. The kiss failed to have its intended effect. It was amusing. |
