Refs: | Comment 1 The thing for that example though is I've definitely heard Japanese people use it that way. For example, Sambon Juku often says it in his sign offs, as seen here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONoDHftxgAI&t=550s "このビデオが面白かった、役に立ったと思ったら、ライク、コメント、シェア". So I don't know. Comment 2 in reply(abbriged): One thing with Katakana is that their most basic function is meant to signal loan words, so native younger generations just use it as a direct reflection of their English counterpart instead of the supposed "correct" etymologically aware usage. It depends on how you want to sound, if you want to sound like a younger generation's speech you will try to mimic even the not-so-rigid way they use the language, but if you want to speak in a formal or business situation you definitely don't want to sound like you are recording a TikTok video. |
|
Comments: | Reading through the comments of the aforementioned post, it seems "kids these days" might be picking up "video" again (a la ビデオクリップ)... It makes sense, but I don't know what that says for this entry. Is ビデオ = 動画 [sl] or [col] then? (a separate sense) |

Comments: | We agreed not to hide [ok] readings. Our current policy is to keep using [ok] for readings described as "古くは..." in the kokugos, and to either drop the rest or move them to separate [arch]-tagged entries. The kokugos have "古くは「ばんぜい」" for 万歳/ばんざい so [ok] is appropriate here. But I also don't think there's much value in recording these readings so I wouldn't object to dropping it entirely. |
