As in English, ウイング (and 翼) can have many applications & meanings. Either we try and spell them all out (and the Othello one would be well down the list), or we just leave it as "wing". I've extended it to see how it looks, but I'd be quite comfortable with just one sense.

  Comments:
Came here to add clarity that this can apply to people(friends, etc.), saw some other things... (and created 合流点 as part of that)

I don't usually suggest this, but maybe one sense would be simpler for English speakers? Note that *all* of the glosses in [2] can be used perfectly well in English for rivers.

If not, I've suggested a reorganization of the glosses to match the kokugos' split.

Sankoku has two senses. One is explicitly rivers. One is explicitly people. Neither covers metaphorical uses like "tech trends coming together", it's not clear that sankoku's "people" definition should cover armies joining forces, or why cars should be more like rivers than people (merging of traffic). Maybe cars are more of a "flow". But this feels somewhat arbitrary. daijs seems like a clearer split, [1] = rivers (etymological meaning), [2] = people, groups, and など, everything else...

I created the xref as one sense. To keep this entry as two senses, it seems the xref should perhaps also be split in two. The simplest split for me feels like "rivers" -> confluence, and "everything else" -> junction, meeting point, etc.... But again, all of the sense[2] glosses seem to work fine for rivers as well.

I'd rather put vehicular traffic in a 3rd sense than arbitrarily squeeze it into the "river" sense, just because cars "flow"(or whatever the justification might be, it's honestly not quite clear to me).
===

At minimum, 51% explicitly verbal. Not clear from the old glosses, which should probably have more gerunds. Looking at the ngram numbers in the new proposal at the xref, it looks like we'd be better recommending the xref as a gloss for the noun "confluence". Just giving the xref will also expose the word "confluence" in situations where that might be the right translation for 合流.

pummel
verb
pum·mel ˈpə-məl
: POUND, BEAT
  Comments:
I came here to suggest "pummel" (below). Then I googled and saw a bunch of baseball players, and realized that "belt hit after hit" was probably a baseball reference, then I saw this vaccine thing and got incredibly confused:

「ワクチンを打って打って打ちまくるしかない」 2022.1.18 NHK
https://twitter.com/KDystopia/status/1485704549478572032
All googlable. Not massively common or anything, but easily understandable by a Japanese person. "ワクチン" is also *optional* in context.
"ワクチンを打ちまくる"
"ワクチンを打って打って打ちまくるしかない"
"ワクチンを打ちまくれ"

At the end I finally get that 捲る is a generic suffix. 打ちまくる isn't even *in* sankoku, in any form. But 捲る[2] is. This applies to *all* senses of 打つ. I see we have a bunch if ~捲る entries. Often times we do not gloss entries that are compounds like this. Obviously it's helpful to provide more nuanced English glosses(like "pummel"), but there is also a certain argument for deleting this term entirely to fall back on 打ち + 捲る glosses, since 打つ has *so many* potential senses.

Otherwise, it seems like the proper thing to do is split this into a bunch of senses...

The problem is that having this entry here, limited to the hitting sense, masks the fact that 打ちまくる just means to 打つ repeatedly, whatever 打つ might mean. We might be mislead to think the Japanese are aggressively pounding away at vaccines.

================

Entirely limited to "pummel"(I wrote all of this first): Am I crazy? I feel like we have a word for "to hit repeatedly" and "to belt hit after hit" and "to unleash a barrage of blows". But I can't find much J->E support for it anywhere. Should we share this with the world?

I encountered 撃ちまくる, with the other kanji. But even that one could have used "pummel" I think. Fighter calling on his mage companions to finish off a dragon by blasting it with magic. "今だ。撃ちまくれ!" "Ok, shoot it now!" or "Now! Fire!"

  Comments:
"steamroller voting" is an extremely rare collocation in English (google). Hard to imagine where this would be useful.

images that come back in a news search seem to suggest that [politics] is appropriate.

Never heard "steamrollering", but oxford confirms a North American often wouldn't.

"steamrolled the measure" 2 google hits; "The GOP dominated Senate steamrolled the measure through by a 22-11 vote "
"steamrollered the measure" 5 google hits House of Commons Hansard Debates: "steamrollered the measure through the House before the general election"
"railroaded the measure" 27 hits

Googits are of course inaccurate, so who's to say. I could scroll for a while on all of these though:
"steamrolled the bill" 4400
"steamrollered the bill" 2500
"railroaded the bill" 6500

eijiro prefers "railroaded" for all its verbal glosses (about 7 of them).

  Comments:
"splitting up" says "i.e. of a couple", and is a great gloss for that purpose. But "splitting up" is pretty much *only* about couples.

"without reconciling"(yet) or "without every being able to reconcile" seem to be key here looking at the kokugos and some only q&a references.

No good: "Yeah, I got in a fight with my dad and we split up."

I've seen this twice in my show now. The second time was a father whose last words were with his son were after a quarrel about something petty. Then the son went off to battle and died, so they could never speak again.

The first time was a gruff old dwarf recalling how he parted ways with his 弟子... (apprentice? pupil?) after a fight. He struck the pupil not out of anger, but as a reflexive fear. His pupil had become so skilled, he that moment he was frightened. The pupil ran off, and eventually encountered the rest of the main cast to go adventuring.
The *four* translations I have for the two uses are now:
ケンカ別れをしてしまった。
1. We had a fight and parted ways
2. We parted in anger.
息子とケンカ別れだった。
3. My son and I parted in anger
4. My final words with my son were an argument.

I saw 憑りつかれる on 取り憑かれる, and it stood to reason that might also apply here. Oddly enough, windows IME produces 憑りつかれる and 憑りつく, but *not* 取り憑かれる or 取り憑く。Windows might be influential enough to have pushed this form into existence. (or at least elevated it significantly. I do see some old book results...).

MacOS and both new and old versions of android all produce the correct forms for me rather quickly(top-of-the-list), and do not produce the deviants at all. On Windows I have to jump through hoops to type this correctly.

  Comments:
We have an ample number of 〇〇点 entries, it doesn't seem this should be out of place.

It does seem that both 合流 and 合流点 can potentially just mean "confluence", but if you look at the math in the refs, it would seem that an explicit reference to the physical junction point of two rivers ("a confluence") is more likely to be either of 合流点 or 合流地点 than just 合流 alone.

  Comments:
Comments at xref. Lots of ngrams, perfectly common even if it feels a little simplistic/redundant. Not in eijiro.

First google hit was actually a honda website with a picture of a merge/junction at a highway onramp, with pic:
https://global.honda/jp/safetyinfo/kyt/master/master07.html
本線の一番左の走行車線を走っていて、合流地点が近づいたら、合流してくるクルマの動きに注意しましょう。

Image search suggests this might have a particular affinity with vehicle traffic for whatever reason.

Another vehicle pic, again, merging area from JAF (Japanese Automobile Federation)
https://jaf.or.jp/common/kuruma-qa/category-drive/subcategory-technique/faq130
本線を走行中に合流地点に近づき、加速車線を使って合流してくるクルマが見えたら....

Very similar verbiage between JAF and Honda. I don't get the same sorts of results for 合流点, it is possible that " merging area (e.g. on a highway onramp)" should *not* be harmonized with the xref...
