ムキになる is also a very used form as also confirmed by google hits.

What about adding in the meanings "to get worked up"??
It seems to fit perfectly the term!
It is also a suggested translation here:

  Comments:
I see some refs which describe jukujikun as kun readings of established kanji compounds (from Chinese; e.g. 昨日・きのう, 今朝・けさ) as opposed to words which acquired novel kanji representations (流石・さすが, 一寸・ちょっと, 麦酒・ビール). They consider the latter group to be ateji.

I guess it's probably best to continue using the [ateji] tag only in the narrow sense. Definitely less confusing.
17. A 2024-02-26 23:59:49  Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
当て字 in the broad sense of the word includes 熟字訓. Meikyo and Wiktionary have it as a second sense.
16. A 2024-02-25 10:43:06  Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
Quite a few references conflate ateji and gikun. Our ateji tag was added in 2009, based on some kokugos.
15. A* 2024-02-25 06:11:01  Stephen Kraus <...address hidden...>
  Refs:
Refs say the 流石 kanji form derives from kanbun: 枕流漱石(流れに枕し石に漱ぐ).

Daijirin has a long note explaining how the word itself originated from a combination of the adverb さ, the verb suffix す, and the particle がに.

Several kokugos (daijirin, iwakoku, smk) refer to 流石 as "当て字" or "借字", which doesn't make any sense to me. Those references also have 流石 marked with their usual jukujikun symbols.
  Comments:
I feel like [ateji] here is inconsistent with how we normally use the tag. As far as I can tell, there's no phonetic connection to these kanji.

Thanks for the prompt review to both!

Sorry, this was my first submission and I'm a bit confused, was Marcus replying to someone elses comment? Or did he mean "is" instead of "isn't"?

I haven't managed to find a good reference in a real dictionary yet. I did find some other places that mention the usage:
wikipedia https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/すっぴん under 他の用法 - 元々の意味から転じて、どの能力も付加しない状態のことを「すっぴん」と呼ばれることがある。
dic.nicovideo.jp https://dic.nicovideo.jp/a/すっぴん - その他に、ゲーム「ファイナルファンタジー」シリーズにジョブの一つとして登場する。
ゲーム「星のカービィ」シリーズでコピー能力を持たない状態のこともこう呼ぶ。

I did find that weblio lists "freelancer" for it under すっぴんの英語 ( https://ejje.weblio.jp/content/すっぴん ).

I found this meaning after someone who encountered it on the game bravely default (https://w.atwiki.jp/bravelysecond/pages/17.html , it seems to be called "freelancer" in the english version) and asked me what it meant when they didn't find a matching definition on their lookup dictionary (JMDICT).

So far I've found 3 games that seem to use the term (Final fantasy, kirby and bravely default).

Is that enough for an addition? If so, should I make an edit adding them all as references? Or just some?
In case it's not enough, do I need to do something to close the submission?

Cheers, Nick.

I did consider that general position but I felt having the euphemistic "new commoner" was worth it. I'd have flagged it as [euph] but that's sense-wide.

We decided a few years ago that [expl] should not be used if the entry only has one gloss. Sometimes an explanatory gloss is all that's needed but in that case it should not be tagged as [expl].

This might be an irrational pet peeve, but I don't like it when entries only contain [expl] glosses.
We have "平民" glossed as "commoner." Maybe "new commoner" is fine here.

Perhaps [hist] is more appropriate than [obs].

OK, confusing. Not mainly col like I assumed... daijr says 中世語. daijs says ◆主に室町時代に用いられた。「ろ」となることもある。
But it's also current ... in some forms of ksb maybe? I.e. what I heard on the TV previously.
(I came here because I encountered でしたろう in an early Showa interview with Tokyo (spec Ginza) oldies talking about the Meiji 20s. So It's not arch, either way)
Should prob be split out as ろう,ろ.

We don't always need full expression entries for corresponding abbreviations.
"同接" in the context described could also be considered an abbreviation of "同接数"
2. D* 2024-02-25 03:30:53  Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
This is 同時接続 + 数. You can add 数 to all sorts of things creating a "number of ..." term. Given that 同時接続 has now gone in as an entry, I doubt we need this as well.

Needed to support the [abbr] "同接" (接 is not a standalone word, so 同接 is not A+B).

I've also created 同時接続, I think this is unavoidable as 同接 is an [abbr] of this term, while 同時接続 is [vs] (and more common/versatile)

I've tagged this as [comp] as it basically refers to network connections, but it seems commonly understood in pop culture due to live streamers if nothing else.

Considered as:
   (number of) concurrent connections

I wouldn't object, but it does seem like "number of" usually appears explicitly in practice.

isn't 同接 viewers (同時接続数, concurrent connections) in this context? I don't know if it means something else in the finance context.
Reply: You are right. It's just that this word is too much of a vtuber/streamer lingo that a regular translator software won’t be able to recognize it
  Comments:
Google "同接ランキング" for a mountain of modern usage examples(ranking of live streamers by concurrent active connections).

I'm here after encountering a failed machine translation in the wild, followed by an explicit discussion of the issue (last ref, reddit).

As in 同接ランキング, the cases where is appears as [net-sl] will be almost exclusively plural. (This is an abbr of 同時接続数, after all. Though in practice 同時接続 will usually end up pluralized as well...)

As slang, "concurrent viewers" seems to be the common English analog, even though this has some wrinkles. The technical distinction is that one viewer can have multiple connections open, while the server software can only track connections(1 user = multiple connections). On the other hand, when I hear "concurrent viewers", I just assume that the system can't distinguish "actual" viewers from connections anyway. So this distinction is rather small in practice.

Also, 同接 might reasonably also be considered to be influenced by:
同時接続者	4993
So there is an argument there as well.

I'm fine with a shorter "i.e. of a livestream", or something else, but that may not be friendly to unfamiliar users.
