nikk 白人 素人 entry:
② (「白人(しろうと)」の音読み)

If it had be "a tent" I wouldn't have edited.

Just saw used as "to put up a magic barrier", the result was a translucent spherical "aura" surrounding two unconscious people, about the size of a tent. So it matches "to put up a tent". But it just popped into existence, and doesn't seem to match sense[2] otherwise... hmm.

  Comments:
Was recently skimming github issues. Here's an entry without [uk] because of 草, and no hint has to how obscenely uncommon the kanji forms are *relative to the kana forms*. I would ordinarily never mark a word with 5000 ngrams as [rK]. It's a bit of a disservice because you are perfectly likely to encounter it in real life. You just probably shouldn't use it.

I've certainly encountered other cases where it would be nice to indicate explicitly "this form is comparatively rare, but not 'rare' in an absolute sense". That said, I'm still not sure there are enough of these that it's worth whatever changes would be necessary to address them.

鳳蓮草, at least, is [rK]. 法連草 is not in sankoku, which considers "菠薐草" correct (lots of technical sources online seem to share this opinion). 菠薐 is apparently from Chinese, and the name of the country they got the spinach from? (~persia)? You can just look at 法蓮草 to see how this came in as ateij, I added a ref to confirm. And now it seems that in practice it has been further simplified to 法連草 (easily found on twitter in recipes, and even in modern published books). Used on sites that should "know better" (seed sellers, etc.). But doubly-not-officially-endorsed, so marked as [sK].

法連草 is, interestingly, one of only two kanji forms given by windows IME (the first is 法蓮草). 菠薐草 is not offered (though android offers it).

If I search kanji on amazon or google images, I can actually find *a few* products that stamp 法蓮草 on the product label, which is more than I can say for any other kanji form.

On the new form 法連草, several recent gardening books come up, and one that loads a scan with a chapter subtitle is here(seems a bit too conspicuous to call it a typo):

  Comments:
xref should be to 現在進行形[2], but it's not yet approved(I just created it).

The gloss was already an adjective. Context I found this was protagonist realizing he was actively under the effects of an ongoing curse: 俺ら現在進行形で呪われているってこと

I removed "(e.g. of a project)" because it seems to suggest a limitation that isn't there, looking at all of the various collocations I've encountered. (including "being actively cursed").

I think the ngrams for 進行形の問題(1337) include the ngrams for 現在進行形の問題 (1279), which suggests that sense[2] is usually prefixed by 現在. This is how I encountered it, and it is also the only form glossed by eijiro. So, I think the xref particularly appropriate here.

One more datapoint... yourei as 216 examples of 現在進行形, and only 68 of 進行形.
https://yourei.jp/進行形
https://yourei.jp/現在進行形

weblio still attributes "afoot" to jmdict. I wonder when we dropped that... Nice word, I agree that it's probably dated and/or the wrong register though.

俺ら現在進行形で呪われているってこと.
1. Are you saying that we are being cursed as we speak?
2. Does that mean we're actively being cursed?

As with 進行形, there aren't as many reasons to affix の to "the present continuous tense", so reverso give a lot more non-grammar answers if you include it.

Maybe there is a strict [n] interpretation of [2], but I don't know what it would be. Eijiro gives no noun glosses for sense [2] (but plenty for sense[1]).

  Comments:
Encountered as ごちゃ混ぜのミンチ ("a jumble of minced meat", if they crash to the ground from their current height). Found a movie title "Mixed-Up Confusion" in refs with の. Apparently one of these "な and の have subtle differences" situations...

adj-no appears to be a bit more versatile skimming the ngrams, and also has a higher ngram count (even before subtracting なので false-positives), so I gave it the nod. It's also the form I happened to see.

I [sk]'d the katakana as I happened to notice it's quite low proportionally. No need to encourage it, "use it if you know what you're doing" is my read on that frequency.

「日にち薬」という言葉がある。主に関西で使われているらしく、東京っ子には馴染みがない。
 どんな悲しみや苦しみでも月日を経ることによって、悲しみを乗り越える力を与えてくれる、そんな意味で使われるらしい。

「日(ひ)にち薬(ぐすり)」。いい言葉ですね。今や全国区の知名度を得たようです。
