Comments: | I found that last reference I mentioned (in regard to the collarbone area). It was in Wikipedia. http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/胸の谷間#.E3.83.87.E3.82.B3.E3.83.AB.E3.83.86 . Of course, it's described as a 勘違, though. |

Comments: | I think it's a fine line. The style we usually follow is that if an entry defines a state, then an adjective from it (e.g. adj-no) goes in the same sense. Now you are making it clearer that your sense 3 is more a clothing style, I agree it should go back. Originally (in French, etc.) décolleté applied equally to the back. I wondered about the application in Japanese of デコルテ, and looked at Google images. Mostly front shots, but there were some of bare backs too. I felt that "part of a woman's chest and back exposed ..." was pretty safe - it doesn't say how much of each. |

Comments: | I also question whether it's true that the Kojien definition implies that "the exposed parts of ... the back" are included in デコルテ. My copy of Kojien says 首筋や胸をあらわした (exposing the nape of the neck and the chest). . Of course a low-cut dress *may* (or may not) reveal part of the back, but my other sources (references 1, 2 and 3 under the heading SENSE #1 above) suggest that デコルテ only refers to the part of the *chest* exposed by a low neckline. . I even read on one webpage that many Japanese think of the デコルテ as just the *collarbone* area, because in Japan people tend to frown on deep necklines that expose the cleavage. |

Comments: | Found this because I was curious about the mismatch between EDICT's definitions for 合理主義 and 合理主義者. Judging by the GG5 entry it seems like 合理主義者 has both the obvious "somebody who believes in 合理主義" i.e "rationalist" sense and a second "practically minded person" sense, rather than 合理主義 also meaning "pragmatism". But I'm just working off the dictionary entries here... To my mind a pragmatist and a rationalist are two different things, hence two senses. |

Comments: | Was recently skimming github issues. Here's an entry without [uk] because of 草, and no hint has to how obscenely uncommon the kanji forms are *relative to the kana forms*. I would ordinarily never mark a word with 5000 ngrams as [rK]. It's a bit of a disservice because you are perfectly likely to encounter it in real life. You just probably shouldn't use it. I've certainly encountered other cases where it would be nice to indicate explicitly "this form is comparatively rare, but not 'rare' in an absolute sense". That said, I'm still not sure there are enough of these that it's worth whatever changes would be necessary to address them. 鳳蓮草, at least, is [rK]. 法連草 is not in sankoku, which considers "菠薐草" correct (lots of technical sources online seem to share this opinion). 菠薐 is apparently from Chinese, and the name of the country they got the spinach from? (~persia)? You can just look at 法蓮草 to see how this came in as ateij, I added a ref to confirm. And now it seems that in practice it has been further simplified to 法連草 (easily found on twitter in recipes, and even in modern published books). Used on sites that should "know better" (seed sellers, etc.). But doubly-not-officially-endorsed, so marked as [sK]. 法連草 is, interestingly, one of only two kanji forms given by windows IME (the first is 法蓮草). 菠薐草 is not offered (though android offers it). If I search kanji on amazon or google images, I can actually find *a few* products that stamp 法蓮草 on the product label, which is more than I can say for any other kanji form. On the new form 法連草, several recent gardening books come up, and one that loads a scan with a chapter subtitle is here(seems a bit too conspicuous to call it a typo): はじめての自然農で野菜づくり: 無農薬 - Page 66 https://www.google.co.jp/books/edition/はじめての自然農で野菜づく/XlRhoy8GKIEC?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq="法連草"&pg=PA66&printsec=frontcover |

Comments: | as I understand it, tonoko is a specific type of powder made from clay. It's mainly used for polishing but not exclusively. (for instance, it's been used traditionally mixed with glue to make karuta heavier) also apparently used as a filler in kintsugi: "The second filler material used is tonoko – a mixture of melleable (clay and china clay) and non-kneadable minerals." http://www.kintsugistudio.com/materials.html |

Comments: | Encountered as ごちゃ混ぜのミンチ ("a jumble of minced meat", if they crash to the ground from their current height). Found a movie title "Mixed-Up Confusion" in refs with の. Apparently one of these "な and の have subtle differences" situations... adj-no appears to be a bit more versatile skimming the ngrams, and also has a higher ngram count (even before subtracting なので false-positives), so I gave it the nod. It's also the form I happened to see. I [sk]'d the katakana as I happened to notice it's quite low proportionally. No need to encourage it, "use it if you know what you're doing" is my read on that frequency. |

Comments: | The expression "EM" is used in Japanese text in the context of agriculture and on labels of agricultural products (apparently mostly in Okinawa). (Currently "Text Glossing" shows the following information when it encounters "EM": EMS 【イー・エム・エス; イーエムエス(sk)】 (n) (1) Express Mail Service; EMS; (n) (2) European Monetary System; (n) (3) Engine Management System; (n) (4) Electronics Manufacturing Services; (n) (5) {comp} Expanded Memory Specification (MS-DOS); (n) (6) Environmental Management System; ED [Partial Match!] Note: to make this entry work in "Text Glossing" (like the existing entries for "EMC", "EMS" and "EMDR"), it has to be written in full-width alphanumeric characters.) |
