I'm seeing plenty of examples of sense 2 on Twitter. I suspect that "junkie" is the more common meaning outside of social media.
Also, as the "junk" sense is technically wasei, I don't think it can come ahead of the "junkie" senses. I wouldn't object to splitting it off into a separate wasei-tagged entry.

I think we need to make up our mind on sense order and formulate a clear policy on it. I think we should heavily prioritize actual usage, with some exceptions, but I don't think "the kokugos lead with x" should be one of those when that usage is uncommon.

〈後退する〉	retreat; fall back
もう一歩もあとへは引かない. I will not budge an inch.

Request to add "fall back" / "retreat"

Just saw やり合う時間はねえぜ。ひくぞ translated as "we don't have time to fight. let's retreat" before jumping out of a window in a 2-on-2 confrontation.

Either this sense is independent of [17], or it would seem that "retreat"/"fall back" should be added to it, and possibly to the matching standalone entry for 退く. Note the Japanese kenkyuusha ref specifically identifies the sense as 後退する, for which we already have:
後退: retreat; falling back; moving backwards; reversing; backing up (of a vehicle); retrogression; retraction

None of "let's draw back" "let's recede" or "let's move back" could have functioned in this context, the last of those being almost-but-not-quite there.

What does "間合いに入る" = 間合いを詰める? mean?
https://hinative.com/questions/4781517
間合いに入る get within the reach(proximity) of the opponent.

I don't think [4] is this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maai
Maai (間合い), translating simply "interval", is a Japanese martial arts term referring to the space between two opponents in combat; formally, the "engagement distance".
The concept of maai incorporates not just the distance between opponents, but also the time taken to cross the distance and the angle and rhythm of attack

間合いに入る とはどういう意味ですか?
https://detail.chiebukuro.yahoo.co.jp/qa/question_detail/q10272105390
「間合い」とは、何かをするのに適当な距離や時機のことだから、
その距離よりも近づけばそういうことになる。
Google translate:
"Mai" is the appropriate distance or time to do something.
That's what happens when you get closer than that distance.
  Comments:
I skipped this the first time I saw it as a fluke, but then just saw the exact same structure again within a week: 間合いに入る

Hunter x Hunter. Context: Samurai-type bad guy keeping our highly-skilled child protagonists under guard in a room. Samurai blocking the door. Boy stands up to confront...
殺す気って面だぜ。先に言っとくがー
俺の間合いに入ったら斬るぜ. (At this point he adopts a fighting stance, hand on sword handle, prepared to strike if the boy actually walks into his range)
English translation:
"You look like you want to kill me. Let me warn you first. Step into this range, and I'll cut you down".

Frieren, spectating/commenting from a distance as the new warrior they've taken on walks up to face a dragon:
竜の間合いに入った。
I have two English translations:
1. He's within the dragon's reach.
2. He's entered the dragon's range.
(At this point they sort of size each other up/stare each other down for a bit before the engagement)

I don't think it's possible to merge this with [3], as [3] is domain-specific terminology (間合い has an English-language kendo wikipedia page) and the definitions would be subtly at odds with each other. So far I've found this sense can apply to samurai warriors, martial artists in combat, and dragons. The last ref I found suggests a sort of link to [2], as in "the suitable amount of time/distince within which a person could carry out some action [action = strike an opponent]". But I wouldn't think this would fit under [2].

The first ref additionally goes into some discussion on nuance with 間合い in a fighting context( 格闘技) vs. some other related terminology, if curious.

There is no dedicated sense for this in sankoku or daijs. Nonetheless, this seems to be how it's used in a couple of structures (minimally 間合い入る and 間合いの中, but probably some others).

Sometimes it's unnecessary to adorn "display":

"By going to Portugal he could champion the oppressed, display his chivalry and self-denial, uphold constitutional rule, and enjoy the freedom of action he craved."
"In a castle, a castle tower had been a manifestation of dominance over the territory and a display of power against other domains and threats, that is, a symbol of legitimacy."
  Comments:
Encountered in my anime. One translator literally chose "flaunting" the other "showing off" ("their magic strength"). These are easily verified glosses.

You can add "ostentation" to my list of new English vocabulary... My original inclination was to change this to "ostentatious display" (as in "an ostentatious display of wealth"). eijiro actually has "display ~ ostentatiously". You might like some other terms on the list... After looking over actual reverso glosses, though, I'm reluctantly inclined to give "display" as a direct gloss(3rd-most popular on reverso), but with an "e.g." that makes it clear why it can work alone.

I guess we could switch "display" for "displaying", but then it would be hard to squeeze "of" into the structure, and that seems like a nice hint... well, either way.

Does not appear to be [adj-no].

Was tempted to write out:
(ostentatious) display (e.g. of power, of wealth, etc.)

This seems perfectly correct, but I worry you'd find it too ugly.

Not-so-critical detail on re-watching. The voice actor makes the standard kiss-imitating "smooch" sound, then immediately follows by saying チュッ out loud. Adds to the amusement when it has no effect on the intended recipient.

  Comments:
Image search for: チュッ , for example. There's an obvious implication about the type of kiss here too. This isn't making-out. It's one quick smooch. This has in interesting implication for "kissing" as a gloss, because in English this implies a prolonged activity. "They were kissing". There's no way "kissing" = "a peck on the cheek".

The ッ makes this deliberately more abrupt than the xref ちゅー.

I know you'll have thoughts on the glosses, I've just thrown out some ideas for consideration.

Do we need separate entries for チュッ and チュッと? I don't think so... I personally don't think と can be considered part of this "word", as convenient as that makes it for a [vs] tag. I do see we have many [on-] terms that include と, some of which probably shouldn't.

Also note, する seems more common without と than with. And if チュッ precisely meant "kiss" then this should be redundant:
チュッとキス	934

Just saw "チュッ" as a subtitled sound effect accompanying an air-blown kiss 投げキッス. The kiss failed to have its intended effect. It was amusing.

i think the current gloss is not very helpful
'*a* kanji' is a bit deceptive imho, as this often refers to compounds with "obvious" on readings
i'm not sure about "nonstandard" either, ja wiki treats "百姓読み" and "慣用読み" as synonyms and i think they have a point
while not all "百姓読み" aren't necessarily "慣用読み" they often overlap, some kokugos use 垂涎/すいえん as an example of "百姓読み" which other kokugos treat as "慣用読み"
kokugos use other examples for their "百姓読み" definitions, but i don't think they're very recognizable

So for example if there are four players, ABCD, and player A wins the game, players BCD might pay player A a total of 5000 points. If a spectator, E, agreed to place a 外ウマ bet on player A, then BCD would also have to pay him an equivalent 5000 points. If player A lost and had to pay BCD 5000 points, then spectator E would also have to pay BCD 5000 points.

I see we don't have a mahjong sense in our 馬・うま entry. I should try to put something there eventually as well.

参考までに機内で火災が発生した場合の一連の流れは次のとおりです。
...
⑤先任はパニックコントロール。

mlit.go.jp pdf from 2017 (google isn't giving me the url)
乗客の統制(パニックコントロール)と、鼻と口を覆って姿勢を. 低くする指示をPA及び肉声で乗客に伝えた。

https://trafficnews.jp/post/77509/2 (2017)
先述したCAではない、JALグループ社員を対象とする救難訓練研修は、こうした脱出のとき、「手荷物を持たないで」と乗客に徹底させ、パニックコントロール、声かけなどでCAをサポートできるようにする、という目的があるそうです。

パニックコントロールとは、呼吸が苦しくなるなどパニックが起こりそうになったときに落ち着いて呼吸する、楽な姿勢をとるなどの対処ができるようにすることをいいます。
https://ikiiki-nagasaki.jp/rehabilitation/todo/
パニックコントロールとは、息切れが生じたときに、息切れの状態をスムーズに回復させることです。
  Comments:
Most of the top web results are about about dealing with shortness of breath, particularly in people with respiratory illnesses.
I'm struggling to find any other examples where it refers to preventing panic in crowds. Is it possible that the JAL official just came up with パニックコントロール on the fly?
