sankoku
[1] すべてを運命にまかせて、心を決めること。あきらめ。「これまで、とーする」
[2] 心構え、決心。「ーはよいか」

daijs:
https://dictionary.goo.ne.jp/word/覚悟/
  Comments:
In spite of having removed it myself, I've now seen a couple sources say that the "resign oneself to one's fate" is possible. Also searching 覚悟 + 諦め says there is a relationship there (also in the kokugos), but much to my surprise, 諦め is more strongly "accepting fate" than I expected. (and less, throwing in the towel because something is difficult).

Apparently the initial meaning was from Buddhism, and this is given explicitly in daijs. Sankoku has simplified things way down from daijs 5 entries, and there seems to me to be quite a gap in the definitions there. sankoku[1] says nothing about buddhism, but seems to parallel the Buddhism sense. This seems rare by comparison in the wild (having googled usages for about an hour now). sankoku [2] is the combination of "decide" and "prepare" contained withing 心構え and 決心. This seems to me to match daijs[1], without the expansive treatise on danger...

"Resignation" or something fate-related probably belongs. But I don't think it should all be in one gloss, and I think the kokugo divisions back that up.

Perhaps move "resolve" higher on the list than I have?

Frieren(anime). 覚悟 comes up a lot, including 覚悟を決める, and it is always translated as "resolve". From my limited reading on this term, this seems to be a particularly apt translation.

"resignation" seems off-the-mark. We currently have a translation for 覚悟を決める as "to prepare(for the worst)", which would align with "resignation", but I think this translation is also off. Japanese references give a description of something like "accepting the danger ahead and deciding to move forward", which is where this interpretation might have come from. But it looks like 覚悟 and 覚悟を決める generally have positive connotations "to decide to move forward in spite of the dangers or challenges".

I'd honestly put "resolve" higher on the list, but I haven't researched this term so extensively as to make such a claim.

eijiro has nothing like "resignation" in an extensive list of collocations. So if you don't have support to keep it, I'd recommend dropping.

Saw translated this way. "appeal" is more common, but this also fits, and disambiguates a bit(not an "appeal" in the u.s. legal system sense). reverso provides some support, though "appeal" is more common there as well.

"plea" could also be squeezed in here potentially.

nuance is something like:
direct appeal (to a sovereign/ to the head of an organization). Not sure if that's apparent here or not.

Apparently the phrase isn't unheard of in American politics, but my intuition is that it must be very rare. I like to think I have at least an average education, but I don't think I've ever heard the expression.

One of the most common criticisms of JMdict that I see is about the reliance upon potentially obscure set-phrases like this.

A hand-operated screw-type 開閉機 for opening and closing water gates
https://www.kanae.co.jp/result/detail/?pdid=60
Google translate: Our flat-winding type "KFH opening/closing machine"
  Comments:
Google search didn't turn up any railway gates at all. Instead, the *primary* result is chain-drive motors for opening and closing the kinds of metal shutters that block out ground-level shops when they are closed for business. "opening and shutting machine", if you will... Second results are big metal hand-operated wheels for opening and closing water gates (refs).

There is a name for this product, but it doesn't work well in a vacuum.
シャッター開閉機 = "shutter operator" (refs are a business website with Japanese and English translations). We can't very well stick "operator" as a gloss though.

daijs has this entry. sankoku does not.

If you search 開閉機 鉄道, google images *still* doesn't return any legitimate railroad searches.

Clearly [2] is dominant today, and not entirely uncommon. I don't think dropping [1] entirely would be a great loss, but it's in daijs, so [rare] at least.

不連続線 is what weather front's used to be called, but now they are more commonly referred to as 前線.
Straight from the Japanese Wikipedia article for 前線: https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/前線_(気象)

"かつては「不連続線」とも表記された。「不連続線」は意味上誤りではないが、20世紀半ばから「前線」に取って代わられた。"

Hardly any English speaker would understand "line of discontinuity" in the context of weather, whereas "weather fronts" are a much more common concept, and should be taken as the primary definition/translation.

frick‧ing /ˈfrɪkən, -ɪŋ/ [形] 《名の前でのみ》 米 〘失礼〙
<<「くそったれの」などを意味する強調語で,fucking の婉曲(えんきょく) 的表現>>

Below was some discussion from 2011.

  Comments:
Looks like it is an adjective. It's the last ref I found after writing this novel of examples, but longman's literally uses it to explain the term "fricking" to Japanese readers(1st ref).

Frieren(mainstream modern anime): でも不思議なものだ。暴力で解決するしかなくなったこのくそったれな現状が私はたまらなく楽しいと思っている
"It's strange though. Now that violence has become the only way to resolve this mess, I'm overjoyed"

くそったれな現状 = "this mess"

Whatever expletive this character used, it would not have been a childish one, and the translator dropped it entirely.

The thing is, I don't think as an expletive this is as "strong" as "fucking" is in English. But at the same time, the specific collocations don't lend themselves to more minor expletives. "my damned family" "this damned world" "my damned life", while possible, seem unnatural to me by comparison. If I google "くそったれな" with "fucking" I get a lot more than I do than with any other term I can think of.

I don't think "rotten", which was floated years ago, would really be strong enough. "fucking" seems well-supported to me

It's a Chinese to Japanese dictionary, i.e. those 曲 and 阿 entries are Chinese words, not Japanese. It's not suitable as a reference.
暈 is still visible but in a note instead of the kanji field. This is our usual practice for forms that only apply to one or two senses. Daijs/meikyo/smk do it the same way.
目の下に暈 gets zero Google hits.
"bend" is not a separate sense in daijs and meikyo. But this usage appears to be quite rare. It should probably be lower down. Smk describes it as "雅語".

1. it's not a chinese dictionary, it's a japanese 中日辞典 made by 三省堂, i think it does have at least some legitimacy to kanji usage
plus, all the dictionaries that have "曲" (which seem to be the minority as most have only 隈 and 暈) also have the "へんぴな所" definition
2. 暈 does seem to be used for dark circles under the eye
3. isn't the policy to keep forms in multiple kokugos visible?
4. i don't think the "bend" can be added to sense 1 as daijr, smk, shinkoku and koj all have it as a separate sense

also this is just my opinion but i don't think restr tags clutter the entry, but i understand the reluctance to use them here as there's no kokugo to follow from

  Comments:
The kokugos have no restrictions for 曲 or 阿. I don't think we can use Chinese dictionaries as a guide to Japanese kanji usage. Also, it's not worth cluttering the entry with restr tags for such rare forms.
I think "bend" can be added to sense 1.
smk has "〈暈〉とも書く" for its "濃い色と薄い色とが接する所" sense but our glosses are more specific. 暈 isn't used for dark circles under the eyes.
The "remote place" sense is archaic. I don't think it's needed.

from my analysis:
- "曲" refers to remote places (point 1 + all the dicts that have it also have a definition for "へんぴな所"), added new sense (which is present as 古語 in shinkoku as well)
- "阿" refers to bent/curved places (point 2, similar defs in multiple dict), added new sense (should be original meaning according to smk)

見立て殺人	4931

https://adblankestijn.blogspot.com/2020/04/modern-japanese-fiction-by-year-1946.html
Yokomizo Seishi (1902-1981)... was fond of detective stories... he wrote several puzzle mysteries characterized by theatrical, "dressed-up" murders (mitate satsujin), in rural "Old-Japan" settings.

https://ho-lingnojikenbo.blogspot.com/2012/01/three-act-tragedy.html
like Akuma no Temariuta, Inugamike no Ichizoku, Gokumontou are all essentialy mitate-satsujin (a 'resembling' murder), an off-spring to the nursery rhyme murder. These are murders to are made to symbolize something else. Nursery rhymes are an example, but mitate-satsujin are usually more diverse as it has none of the 'storybook' annotations the nursery rhyme murder has.

https://ho-lingnojikenbo.blogspot.com/2022/04/paint-me-murder.html
The theme of this book is the mitate satsujin, murders patterned after something: the nursery rhyme murder is of course a well-known example of this in English language terminology, but the nursery rhyme murder is a bit smaller scope than the mitate satsujin. In this book, the murders are patterned after the hidden paintings, which all depict hanged people, which of course means people are getting hanged. A lot.

https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/見立て殺人
google translate (no english xref):
A murder case in which a corpse or scene (discovery or murder scene) is embellished by the perpetrator to resemble something specific, such as a nursery rhyme or legend (although it may not amount to murder ) . It aims at the strange eeriness of a murder being carried out according to a plot, and belongs to the plot rather than a trick , [1] but it is similar to Agatha Christie 's `` The ABC Murders '' and Seishi Yokomizo 's ` `The Village of Eight Graves. ''

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/見立て殺人
Etymology
From 見立て (mitate, “allusion”, stem form of 見立てる (mitateru, “to allude”)) +‎ 殺人 (satsujin, “homicide”).
an allusive murder (murder arranged in a way that alludes to something else, such as an idea, a story, a fictitious scenario, etc.)
  Comments:
I've stuck the wiktionary [expl] in here. I don't know if that's kosher.

I searched for "mitatesatsujin" and "mitate satsujin" in romaji, and basically no one offers a workable English gloss. I would call this a "Japanese mystery novel genre".

While I'd like to offer a non-romaji gloss, "calling card murder" doesn't seem to me to explain anything, or seem appropriate. All I imagine is a crime where the perpetrator leaves behind his "calling card", be it a literal card, or by always leaving something recognizable at the crime scene. In the latter sense there, I can see the most tenuous connection to this term, but it still seems off to me.

I searched american amazon.com for "calling card murder" and got *one* book, and it's exactly what I said:
"the only clue is the four calling cards found in the man’s jacket pocket. Can they shed any light on his identity?"

Agatha Christie's "The ABC Murder's" is given as an english-language example. The English-language wikipedia page (extensive) for the novel contains the word "calling card" only once, and it is a literal, physical item left at the scene:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_A.B.C._Murders
"The unknown, cold-blooded serial killer of the case. His pattern of murders is done in alphabetical order, with his calling card being an ABC railway guide left at each crime scene."

If "The ABC Murders" is a "calling card murder", it is because the murderer leaves a calling card. Not because he's choosing his victims in alphabetical order (which is what makes this a 見立て殺人)

wiktionary gives "allusive murder" as a gloss, which is cute, but doesn't actually exist in English. And is phonetically too close to "elusive murder" to be practical. (Google search for "allusive murder" returns almost nothing beyond the wiktionary page)

手売りの意味
ライブ会場やイベント会場で次のイベントのチケットを販売すること。

補足
小さい劇団などでも多く取られているチケット販売手法である。その日の高揚感で買ってしまう、断りづらいので買ってしまうというのが一番のポイント。手売りに良い席が入れることで顧客の囲い込みをする効果も期待できる。

アイドルの手売りは売れ残りのチケットをメンバーに売らせるということも多い。握手したいならチケット買ってね、というシステムである。
