I wasn't familiar with this use of the word but after reading various online discussions about it, my impression is that it's not used by children at all. I think we should indicate this in some way or another if we're tagging it as children's language. Maybe something simple like "used by parents, guardians, etc."

I think [chn] should include words used by adults when speaking to children. I mean kids only say あんよ etc. because that's what their parents use those words with them. I'm sure some toddlers pick up on this to some extent too. I don't really think the note is necessary.

It's not difficult to make a list of words in gg5, nikkoku, etc. that aren't in JMdict.

Without doing the homework, the odds of entering inaccurate or misleading info are high.
The odds of these obsolete terms being useful to anyone are low.

I think it'd be better if submissions like this without any stated motivation or research were summarily deleted.

the reference is the research, i think. it doesn't seem like there was really anything wrong with the original submission, except maybe a couple of tags and a cross-reference were missing.

much (or most) of the dictionary was compiled by cross-referencing various word lists against dictionaries and encyclopedias. between 2007 and 2020, i submitted thousands of entries from various word lists and random things i was reading, cross-referenced against dictionaries.

arbitrary cruft is no good, but this submission is a headword in britannica

I also don't think there's necessarily an issue with having entries like these.
My problem is a combination of two things.

1. Someone is randomly selecting obsolete words from old dictionaries and encyclopedias to submit. Notice how five "輪" words (操縦輪, 玉輪, 車輪窓, 輪癬, 輪講会) all arrived at the same time.
2. No research is provided regarding the role of the word in contemporary Japanese. Someone else has to go investigate it. I don't think these old references can be safely taken at face value.

I wouldn't raise a fuss if either of these two points were addressed.
If we really want to decide which words to investigate by throwing a dart at a list, I'd be happy to put together a list of words from smaller Reiwa-era dictionaries (sankoku, shinmeikai, iwakoku) that aren't in JMdict.
4. A* 2023-09-22 00:21:33  Marcus Richert <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
It has an entry in Brit ("see ばら窓") and is mentioned in its and sekai daihyakka jiten's ばら窓 entries. I don't think we have to worry about the meaning being misconstrued here. I don't think there's an issue with having entries like these (though I think there's a lot of [arch] stuff that could be thrown out).
