I missed the "W[sK]" addition in the last edit. I don't think it should be here - better to add ダブル as an [sk] reading to the W/ダブリュー entry. For this entry, W only (possibly) applies to sense 1 and its presence is screwing sentence linking. I'll drop it, reopen, and propose ダブル for addition to the ダブリュー entry.

The term taijiao 胎教, which I translate as fetal education, is made up of the
characters tai, for fetus, and jiao, to teach or instruct. While I have translated this
term as fetal education, the education in question refers to an idea of moral
training and instruction aimed at positively influencing the fetus, rather than a
formal mastery of academic material. While the term appears briefly in earlier
texts such as Da Dai Liji, or the Senior Dai’s Book of Rites, the idea of fetal
education develops fully during the former Han dynasty when Liu Xiang praised
the mothers of three of the founding Zhou kings for their diligent practice of
fetal education in his famous text the Lienü zhuan, or Biographies of Exemplary

The Effect of Music Intervention on Fetal Education via Doppler Fetal Monitor
https://www.mdpi.com/2227-9067/9/6/918
Research by Wulff et al. [5] reported that listening to music or singing is beneficial for mental health during pregnancy. Singing different song styles, such as lullabies and play songs, can regulate emotional state [21]. When singing lullabies one can become calmer [22]. Musical interventions can help support health and wellbeing. The Holistic Music Educational Approach for Young Children (HMEAYC) study showed that its approach can be applied to all children....

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5768643/
Antenatal Training with Music and Maternal Talk Concurrently May Reduce Autistic-Like Behaviors at around 3 Years of Age

Antenatal training has been defined as the process whereby women employ various auditory stimulations, such as playing music, talking to their fetus, and belly touching during pregnancy, to encourage beneficial effects on birth outcomes and children’s development (29, 30). In particular, antenatal music training is defined as when the pregnant women uses music, especially certain kinds of positive music (such as classical music, nursery rhymes, lullabies, etc.), to stimulate the fetus with the expectation that the basic elements of the music (e.g., harmony, melody, and rhythm) could have a positive effect upon the fetus. Such practices have a long history in countries such as China. As far as records can indicate, antenatal training was originally performed in Yin and Zhou Dynasty of China over 3,000 years ago

In modern China, playing music and maternal talk to the fetus are the most frequently used practices of antenatal training.
  Comments:
Of course, please simplify as you like.

Was suspicious of "prenatal care"...

Note: "prenatal education" doesn't seem to work, because it already refers to education about pregnancy itself.

This seems to be a concept rooted in East Asian Culture. "antenatal training" is a technical English gloss that will return academic research papers on playing music for your baby in the womb. But "胎教" seems rather more commonplace in Japanese(see amazon book results), so "antenatal training" is not a great gloss in that regard.

"antenatal training" also appears to be too narrow. I think 胎教 can theoretically include things like "practicing good morals".

I believe "prenatal influence of the mother on her unborn baby" comes from lumine. Maybe rewording is necessary, but looking at some of the Chinese/English book results, this does seem to carry a broad definition.

I just spent a couple of hours looking for glosses of "prenatal care", and quite predictably this one never came up. *Except* in the very limited context of playing music for, and/or talking to, one's baby in the womb. And those uses are rare, and quite possibly influenced by this dictionary entry.

Search Amazon for 胎教 and you'll get a mountain of colorful, parent-focused music, and books on music and talking to your baby in the womb:
https://www.amazon.co.jp/s?k=胎教&crid=2VRX4CNUCKRVD&sprefix=胎教,aps,153&ref=nb_sb_noss_1

Such as:
「おなかの中の赤ちゃんとお話そう」
https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/Lets-Talk-Your-Belly-Baby/dp/4872907671/

I do not at all like "prenatal care" as a gloss here, even if this can be very loosely interpreted as a "type" of prenatal care. If you gloss 胎教 as "prenatal care" you will dumbfound your reader, and if you translate "prenatal care" as 胎教 you'll confuse your doctor.

I was wrong; it's not really a gerund.

  Comments:
I copy/pasted "adj" from the oxford entry, which had the the example "established and emerging artists". My own intuition was that "emerging" had a couple of grammatical interpretations, but that I would only actually use "emerging" in an [adj] context in English. For instance, in my purely [n] example, I wouldn't say "predict the emerging of new markets". (Though you could, and google returns some examples, though rare vs. emergence).

  Comments:
I don't think what GG5 has is wrong, but I think something has been missed.

No objection to keeping everything in this entry, but I can say that 胎動する's meaning in context was *very* difficult to interpret(and then have any confidence in) with the current glosses. That's why I put in so much effort. How do you make "signs of" a verb/adjective. Or "indications"?

"stirrings" is straightforward, but it seemed like the wrong word most of the time(in the する case at least, maybe alright as a noun).

For example, what would one do with the daijs example sentence:
独立の気運が胎動する

The daijs example was coincidentally also on wikipedia, on the rise of the Czech independence movement:
チェコ民族独立の気運が胎動する時代にあって、
(google glosses as "national independence was gaining momentum", but I'm also suspicious of google's handling of this term)

Here's one example from a 2021 gov. publication on steps towards carbon neutrality:
https://www.meti.go.jp/shingikai/energy_environment/carbon_neutral_jitsugen/pdf/20210825_2.pdf
3. カーボンニュートラルを目指し胎動する市場の力を活用すること。

I can't see how the previous glosses handle: 胎動する市場の力

And one more strictly-noun usage:
https://www.pentasecurity.co.jp/security_column/未来自動車の変化する5つの要素ー最終回/
新しいサービスによる新規市場の胎動を予測する一方で

In "胎動を予測する", I don't see what could be "predicted" besides "development" or "emergence" of new markets...

I'm not always sure what the goal of [form] is. 胎動[2] is probably readily understood, but I'm not sure it's a commonly spoken form(If you're familiar with it as such, I'll take your word for it). Where I've found it online, it's in news articles and research papers, not personal blog posts. (By this logic "emergence" in English might be [form], I'm not sure if that's the goal or not).

The other terms in jmdict 逓信大臣 and 逓信省 are both [hist]. Odd to suggest making an entire once-common noun [hist], but sankoku does not even have an entry for this term.

(by comparison, sankoku does still have 逓減, for example)

The (e.g.) is already trying to point at [hist], it seems.

Still survives in place names, such as 逓信病院
https://www.hospital.japanpost.jp/about/index.html

But it doesn't mean "communications" here. the gloss is "Tokyo Teishin Hospital".

xref gives context for usage("dissolved in 1949", in particular), without further complicating the gloss.

Placental abruption (abruptio placentae) is an uncommon yet serious complication of pregnancy.
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/placental-abruption/symptoms-causes/syc-20376458
  Comments:
Wikipedia redirects from 胎盤早期剥離 to 常位胎盤早期剥離. I really have no idea what "常位" is doing in this expression, but these appear to be identical.

Not sure why we put the latin gloss first. If I search for "Abruptio Placentae", it generally comes back with instances of "Placental Abruption (Abruptio Placentae)". Google made-up count is 2-to-1 in favor of English. I'll just switch them.

In fact, it seems odd that we do the [expl] at all, we usually don't. (googling "placental abruption" will get you what you want, and it's a technical term with an unambiguous 1-to-1 gloss).

I won't touch the xref, I have no strong feelings on how this is decided.

All in an effort to mark "逓降変圧器" as rare. There are some circular xrefs involved here. I will have to do some followup edits.

That Fibich is far less known than either Antonín Dvořák or Bedřich Smetana can be explained by the fact that he lived during the rise of Czech nationalism within the Habsburg Empire

For 胎動[2], the most-common use seems to be prenominal, and the glosses currently in 胎動[2] are not easily applicable. It's try that whatever "胎動する" means as [adj-f], it can certainly also mean as [vs,vi], but this is so difficult to interpret when you encounter it, that I think it's worth having.

I understand the "emerging" is literally the wrong part of the child-development process, but as an idiom for "beginning to show signs", it seems to be the right idiomatic match:
emerging
/ɪˈməːdʒɪŋ/
adjective
becoming apparent or prominent.

I think there are other applicable glosses, but outside of "emerging" I'm less confident. "awakening", "(newly) developing", "appearing", "rising", "on the rise (from inception)", "in motion"... others surely.

"on the rise" seems to cover a lot of the examples I've found that aren't well-covered by "emerging". (forbes: "Japanese luxury culture on the rise"). I think the implication is that it's something newly conceived, and beginning to become popular.

Google, for whatever reason, often latches on to "movement", and translates as "in full swing", and sometimes "flourishing". That seems over the top. This term seems poorly understood by explicit J->E resources.

Here's a good title from Nikkei from 2016 on the emergence (or something...) of virtual reality:
VR元年 胎動する市場 2016.7.15 (Nikkei Business)
https://ameblo.jp/bltokyo/entry-12186127500.html

And another on a new southeast-asian economic transportation corridor beginning to flourish(2019):

We currently have a term glossed "prenatal care" (胎教), which is not "prenatal care" in any common sense of the word. It's the only entry we have, so I went looking for the "correct" one...

I think there is no perfect term for "prenatal care" in Japanese, because the Japanese system wraps pre/post-birth care up as a single concept (i.e. perinatal care). The core of "prenatal care" seems to me to be regular medical checkups, which is this term. "prenatal care" also includes screening (出生前診断). If you want a more useful term in Japanese, you want perinatal care (周産期医療).

This is the only entry I think "prenatal care" can be legitimately placed on without introducing confusion, so I would prefer to xref the "missing" parts from here.

If you search "prenatal care" "tokyo", visit various clinics' English pages, find "prenatal care", switch languages to Japanese, you'll find that "prenatal care" is common in English, but the Japanese versions are all over the place. This just isn't a "standard" category like in English. "検診・胎児ドック・Prenatal Care" was a top-level menu on one site, for example.

I think antenatal is British? Never heard of it...
