This term has been in the news a lot recently. It appears that a キックバック is not necessarily illegal or illicit. Some politicians are in hot water over them, but their problem is that they didn't declare they'd received them. Subtle point, but it's probably best to drop that from the entry.

also refers to chainsaw (etc.) kickback, steering kickback, and the kickback plate of a bowling lane

either we should have a sense for each of these, or else just "kickback" was good enough

Seems OK and I've reindexed the sentences. I note that GG5 has 8 senses.
I also wondered about moving 遷す, 感染す and 伝染す into their own (rare) entries, but felt a bit too tired.

i see no downside in including many search-only forms
if they're used in the wild (twitter, etc.) they might appear somewhere else and are useful
for example "とじ籠こもる" is at the very least used in a ranpo novel

Obviously if a term is used in a book or paper related to the period when it was in more regular use, that does not override the "term was primarily used during or before the Edo period" criterion applied to the [arch] tag. >Nikkoku's source is 宋史−吐蕃趙思忠伝.
Nikkoku always list the earliest known reference, if I'm not mistaken, so an old example there isn't really indicative of it being arch. Since it's given as a synonym in daijr's 酋長 entry, I think this should be rare rather than arch. I'm getting some recent hits on google books e.g. 漢民族華南発展史研究 (1984).

Quite. They are meant to be mutually exclusive. I'll go through them and remove the [rare] from the [arch] entries.

History:
4. A 2023-12-04 22:23:27  Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
It might seem a little anomolous but it's consistent with our style.
We've always omitted the articles from the noun glosses where possible (for space reasons). The 絹の道/シルクロード entries have only been "Silk Road". When adding extra information, often in parentheses, we've abbreviated where possible, but otherwise used grammatical English. Hence "precursor to the Silk Road" - dropping "the" from that would be odd.

The basis of this submission was an AI response on HiNative. The answer from a human surmises that it means 「職務や仕事などから開放される/された」.

In another hinative thread, the phrase 「自分のからだになる」, from the same passage, stumps the responders, until one thinks that it means 「やっと夫の身支度を終え自分の自由な時間を過ごせるようになる」.

This is in line with the official English translation by James B. Harris (emphasis mine):

> Yoshiko saw her husband to his work at the Foreign Office at a little past ten o'clock. Then, *now that her time was once again her very own*, she shut herself up in the study she shared with her husband to resume work on the story she was to submit for the special summer issue of K—magazine.

So the ChatGPT bot just fabricated meanings here.
