しかたさんの四は、漢数字の四ではなく、本来は横目で、当用漢字に無いため、役所が勝手に漢数字の四に変更して戸籍等にも登録されているとのこと。

nikk: ⑦ 漢字の頭(かしら)の一つ。「睪」「置」などの「罒」の部分をいう。「目」の字を横にしたものと、「网」から変化したものとがあり、後者は「網頭(あみがしら)」ともいう。この頭をもつ字は、字典では目部と网部とに分かれる。

If you Google
"警察の外で待" you get 0 results.
"警察の前で待" - 1 result.
On the other hand, I think it's quite common for 警察 to refer to police 
officer(s), as in the following example:

I only see the りんご reading in iwanami dictionaries (iwakoku, koj). Iwakoku has it marked as a jukujikun.

Shinmeikai prefers the ひょうか reading, so I placed that one first. Daijisen gives equal weight to へいか and ひょうか.

Most of the refs are pretty explicit that this refers only to the fruit. 「リンゴの果実。」

smk: リンゴの、業界用語。
Given the relative rarity of this form, I think a [rare] tag might be appropriate.

I forgot to bring the りんき reading from entry 1555480.

My previous comment was mistaken. I was actually looking at Nikk's entry for 「りんき」, not 「りんきん」.

I don't see any refs with dedicated entries for りんきん【林檎】, but Nikk does mention the reading in the body of its entry for りんご.
Marcus cited Nikk when he added りんきん in 2012, so he was probably referring to the full version that used to be hosted on Yahoo.

I only see りんきん in nikk. It cites 色葉字類抄 (1177-81).
