Refs: | https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/仝 仝(どう)は文字のひとつであり、特殊な漢字である。「同」の「古字」とされる。一般に、繰り返しを表す記号として用いられ「同上記号」という。 https://kanji.jitenon.jp/kanjiy/12376.html 読み方には、ドウ / トウ / おな(じ) / とも(に)などがあります。 shinsen (kanwa entry for 同): 「仝」は異体字。 meikyo (entry for どう【同】): 「仝」とも。 shinmeikai (entry for どう【同】): 「仝」とも書く。 |
Comments: | As mentioned in the wikipedia quote, "同上記号" might be a name for 仝 when it's used as a symbol. It's not clear to me that "どうじょう" is a name or reading for the symbol, though. Most of the refs treat the character as an alternate form / itaiji of 同. I propose changing the reading from 「どうじょう」 to 「どう」, changing the PoS tag to [unc], and adding a cross reference to 同上. |

Comments: | 褪める is indeed さめる (coming from the old 二段 verb 褪む), but no 漢和 shows さ.める as a 訓読み for 褪. It's one of those grey cases. Daijirin says of 褪める "〔「冷める」と同源〕", which is not a lot of help. I'm not going to add to the kanjidic readings for 褪. |

Comments: | No change to the above. When I clicked on "examine", one of the entries was:- 褪 [JIS] 6A74 [Uni] 892a [部首] 145 [画数] 15 [音] タイ トン [訓] あ.せる ぬ.ぐ [英] fade; discolour This entry shows 15 strokes. It seems to me that the stroke count should be 14, i.e., the higher of the following stroke count, plus 5:- 退 [JIS] 4260 [Uni] 9000 [部首] 162 [教育] 5 [画数] 9 [画数] 8 [音] タイ [訓] しりぞ.く しりぞ.ける ひ.く の.く の.ける ど.く [英] retreat; withdraw; retire; resign; repel; expel; reject. Also, the reading of "さめる" which is included in the main entry above and also included in such dictionaries as Kenkyusha is not included in the kanji details for "褪" above. Maybe the kanji details are not generated by your dictionary and maybe you have no control over them, in which case my apologies for using the above main entry as a vehicle for comment on this matter. Also, I hope that I have not missed some obvious point and wasted your time. |

7. | A* 2023-12-24 19:01:50 Stephen Kraus <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | I don't think they're useful as dictionary entries. On the contrary, they seem confusing and sometimes plainly incorrect ("仝" as "どうじょう" looks very suspicious). にょろ is one possible name among many (波線符号, チルダ, 波ダッシュ). GG5 has a 電算俗 tag in its entry for にょろ, so it sounds like it's actually a somewhat slangy name. The wiktionary entry for the symbol doesn't even mention にょろ, but it does say that the symbol is sometimes read as 「から」. More generally, I don't think it makes sense to have names as "readings" for symbols. For example, we don't have 「🔰」 in a kanji field alongside 初心者マーク. And 「おのづくり」 is a name for the right-sided 斤 radical, but we have 斤旁 as the kanji form and not a 「斤」 symbol. |

Comments: | We don't have punctuation characters as "kanji" but we do have several other marks, such as △, 〃, 仝, 々, etc. I think 〜 is much the same as these. They're useful - why strip them out? |

Comments: | I don't think the symbols belong in the kanji field here. にょろ is not a "reading" for these symbols; it's a name for them. I've added my IME's default 〜 to a sense note. We probably don't need to display both here. |

Refs: | The idea is that, during the tile shuffling between rounds, you hide the tiles you that you want underneath your palms while pretending to shuffle the tiles. Then when everyone begins building their sides of the wall, you place your winning tiles in the bottom row of your side.
