All others have ちねつ as the primary pronunciation. Some have じね as an alternate, some don't. sankoku: 地熱(じねつ)-> 地熱(ちねつ) As we already have ちね/じね for the root 地熱 entry, I'm guessing じね should be given everywhere. (Maybe it's dialect/colloquial, but do we think individual speakers are dynamically switching between the two forms for different uses of the word "geothermal" hmm...) |

Comments: | Should we switch to leading with the daijs pronunciation (not sure...) Not sure if the contents of the refs changed since 2013, but "ref 2" was daijs, and daijs today gives only one reading, which is じつてんぽ. My inclination was to swap the readings. But looking around online, at least in speech there seems to be a preference for じってんぽ. This word is not in sankoku, so no help there. I wonder if any official references you have give the じってんぽ reading, since daijs now (mysteriously, since it seems common enough) seems to omit it. Is this considered a [col] reading maybe? |

Comments: | I wrote a similar entry for CC-CEDICT a couple of years ago ~ 實體店 实体店 [shi2 ti3 dian4] /brick and mortar business/physical (rather than online) retail store/ . Note that "brick and mortar" seems to be the usual US English term, whereas in Australia etc., it's plural "bricks" -- "bricks and mortar" (CC-CEDICT sticks to US English) . Note that Ref (2) above gives the hiragana as both じってんぽ and じつ‐ てんぽ, but I would think じってんぽ is more likely to be correct. |

Comments: | Comments at 地熱エネルギー. Note, unlike some other terms, this seems a bit more technical, and the technical profession/literature seems to prefer ちねつ. If you actually google "じねつちょりゅうそう" you get zero matches, but I don't think that changes the reality of the ちねつ/じねつ pronunciation split in the population. It would be weird to be inconsistent with this entry without some sort of explicit reason. I'd say a learner should prefer ちねつ in call cases anyway. But dictionaries are recognizing じねつ as valid. |

Refs: | The idea is that, during the tile shuffling between rounds, you hide the tiles you that you want underneath your palms while pretending to shuffle the tiles. Then when everyone begins building their sides of the wall, you place your winning tiles in the bottom row of your side. Then after you have drawn your legitimate hand tiles from the wall normally, you stealthily swap your legitimate hand with the bottom row of your wall. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHYkU3WX0ok https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0JBvkJu1_U This is also the name of a seldomly used mahjong yaku. https://riichi.wiki/Local_yaku#Tsubame_gaeshi |

Refs: | https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grinding_(video_games) (No japanese xref) What is the word or set-phrases of "grinding/grindy gameplay" as opposed to "power-leveling" in formal/informal Japanese https://japanese.stackexchange.com/questions/61206/what-is-the-word-or-set-phrases-of-grinding-grindy-gameplay-as-opposed-to-pow Answer: I think what you are looking for is 作業感の強いゲーム (formal) or 作業ゲー (slang). In gaming contexts, 作業 (literally "task") is a common word which refers to that repetitive and boring work such as defeating the same enemy many times to level up. 作業 is basically a negative word in this context, and many people dislike it. But there are popular games whose main enjoyment is 作業 itself, so 作業 is not 100% negative. For example, Cookie Clicker is a typical 作業ゲー but is loved by many people. For copious examples, search: "作業ゲー" "ff14" (ff14 = final fantasy 14, a video game title. Plenty of other titles would work). https://www.wordreference.com/enja/grinding grinding n (gaming: repeating tasks for advantage)
|
Comments: | You'll probably have thoughts on wording, but I ask that you include the word "grinding", preferably as a gerund. "grinding" is the closest English analogy(a very good one). A game which requires grinding is one where you have to repeatedly fight mindless battles in order to "level up" your character in order to be strong enough to progress. There is no English word for "a game the requires grinding" that I am aware of, and I haven't found a Japanese word for the act of "grinding" outside of classifying the whole game as a 作業ゲー. So translation will always require some finesse. See 死にゲー for another entry with a necessarily verbose gloss. This is clearly more popular than 作業ゲーム, so I wouldn't xref. But 作業ゲーム definitely exists, so it should probably be in here. I will propose it as well... |

Only one exact match on youglish and it sounds to me like she says びょう (or maybe みょう). A lot of refs (meikyo 3e, sankoku, NHK accent, daijr/s, gg5) have 犬種 as けんしゅ. I guess by analogy you'd expect びょうしゅ to be the proper reading here. So [ik] is probably fine. |
