Comments: | I agree. As 曳く, 牽く and 抽く are rare, I don't think it's worth splitting them out either. |
|
16. | A* 2023-12-10 02:58:40 Jim Breen <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | The 引く/ひく extended family is always a bit of a problem as no two references agree on either the range of possible surface forms or the division of the senses. 明鏡 has just 引く, Nikkoku has 9 possible forms, and others are somewhere in between. GG5 has a solo 引く entry (11 senses) and a 引く/退く entry with 4 senses. We separate 退く, 惹く and 弾く into their own entries with mutual xrefs. I find this proposed amendment by アノンさん a bit messy, with its restrictions on all 19 senses. I'm not convinced the restrictions are really needed but I think a better solution would be to move 曳く, 牽く and 抽く to their own entries with mutual xrefs (as with the other 3 forms) and cut back the restrictions. |

Comments: | Is this really considered a 複合動詞? It's just the adverb 再び + the verb 述べる. I normally consider 複合動詞 verbs to be combinations of two verbs, like 思い出す. But 再び isn't derived from a verb (AFAIK). It can be stuck in front of anything. I think these entries should at least be tagged as expressions if they stay. |

google trans(Note google also has "social worker" stuck to this term): A social worker is someone who performs labor without expecting anything in return. Service has the meaning of serving one's country, society, or superiors. Therefore, acts of service refer to labor performed without expecting anything in return. https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/北原怜子 キリスト教の教義に基づき献身的な活動を展開した社会奉仕家である。 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satoko_Kitahara Satoko Kitahara (北原 怜子, Kitahara Satoko, 22 August 1929 – 23 January 1958) – later known as Elisabeth Maria Kitahara – was a Japanese Roman Catholic Kitahara made it her goal to tend to the impoverished and orphaned as well as the sick and poor who were suffering as a result of the damage inflicted during the war. In 1950 she first met the Conventual Franciscan friar Zenon Żebrowski and the two worked together to care for destitute people and children in the riverside Ants Village. This work became the focus for Kitahara's life until she died from tuberculosis in 1958.[4][5] |
|
Comments: | "social worker" has a pretty strong nuance in the U.S. that differs from what this is. In particular, "social worker" is a profession for which one is duly paid. It is not a question of self-sacrifice or volunteer work. Rather than [see="more appropriate term for social worker"], I think this gloss should just be something else. What would be the stereotypical description of Mother Theresa? (setting aside controversy). Someone who dedicates their life to serving those in need. That's what this term seems to be. If you google it, you get a Japanese Roman Catholic woman's wikipedia entry, described as a "社会奉仕家" in the intro(in fact, you'll get several different websites referring to this one woman). No such simple gloss exists on the English side to compare to. If you search reverso, it seems likely that the one "social worker" entry is E->J, probably plucked from here. eijiro: https://eow.alc.co.jp/search?q=社会奉仕家 "servant of the public" A little too close to "public servant" for me, which is again quite different. |
