1. [n]
▶ anecdote

History:
6. A 2023-12-02 20:22:53  Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
I think those kokugo explanations align well with the term "anecdote" in English. It doesn't need extension or modification.

  Refs:
sankoku:
https://www.sankei.com/article/20170101-VY46I2TJTZKTTEO5ZHPFI2SGVE/
  Comments:
all kokugos specify that it's not a well-known story/episode
i think this is why sankoku added a new sense for the common and seemingly paradoxical use as "有名な逸話" (see the sankei article)
someone might argue this is similar to "anecdote"'s etymology, but i still agree with sankoku's choice and think it should be divided in two senses

The smaller kokugos and JEs emphasize the "object/complain" sense.

The "speak/say" sense seems to be the original / literal meaning. I think the refs only mention it for that reason. Obunsha has it tagged as 古.

The third sense seems archaic. We already have a separate entry for a derived expression (物申). I changed the PoS to [int] because the kokugos describe it as "言葉," i.e. you would shout "物申す" at someone's door to get their attention.

"stone chamber" might make sense in the Genshin Impact universe but I don't think it works well as a gloss. A chamber isn't a prison/jail.
That being said, I'm not entirely sure what makes a 岩牢 a 岩牢.
The cliffside jail in the link above looks similar to the manga illustration Stephen posted.
