Google thinks this is "a medal" and I awards no points(spot on, google):
勲章の受章者には、勲章の他に勲記が授与される。
google: In addition to the medal, recipients of the medal are also awarded a medal.

"decoration diplomas" was added in 2022:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orders,_decorations,_and_medals_of_Japan
Conferral of decoration diplomas

Emperor Meiji's signature and State Seal of Japan. This State Seal was created in 1874 and is still in use today, and is affixed to all decoration diplomas of conferred orders.
In addition to the decorations, the recipient to one of the orders is also awarded a decoration diploma. The diploma is a certificate bearing the name of the recipient, the name of the order awarded, the date of the award, the name of the awarding authority, etc., along with the State Seal of Japan. The text and content of the diploma according to the type of decoration. All the text in the diplomas is written vertically.
  Comments:
And this is where I started. Image search 勲記, and in the bottom-center of every page is a the image of the medal received. Many are framed with the medal beside.

Only a single page on all of wikipedia uses the term "decoration diploma". It is the page on Japanese honors, where the section on "decoration diplomas" was added in 2022, likely as a translation of the Japanese side. I don't think this is a word, and I don't think it makes a very useful gloss (reverso never uses it).

I think a good reverso gloss was:
このうち、名誉勲章の勲記は以下のとおりである。
His Medal of Honor citation reads as follows.

Maybe "citation" could work here. But "medal of honor" is too loaded in English to be used generically without also causing confusion.

Another, which I would also not adopt, is:
"Ambassador Kai read out the Patent of Decoration"

Here we have "award certificate"
"Dr. Friedman was presented his award by Emperor Akihito and received the award certificate from Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the ceremony for the First Order of Merit and higher awards."

I lied, here's one...
Even the lower rank like Kun hachito (the 8th Order of Merit) whose Kunki (decoration diploma) does not have the name of the Emperor in it, was described to be "conferred by the Emperor."

Meikyo has a list of similar constructions in its entry for 旁.

We have entries for all three of those (斧旁, 彡旁, etc.)

Sankoku tends to overuse its 文章語 tag compared to meikyo and shinsen, but [form] might be okay here anyway.

eijiro has it eventually, somewhere below the funny (to me) "crow-fly distance".

So many of these translations are practically *begging* for "as the crow flies" as a natural translation (mostly have the straight-line distance gloss)

Seemed like an obvious gloss. Looks like this is used for map distances.

Google the pair:

Seems this in some ways applies to 一直線 as well, which we have, but that's a bit more complicated (needs に)

In the system before the 2003 revision, titles consisted of two parts, the class number (kuntō [ja]) and the decoration. For example:
勲一等旭日桐花大綬章 (literally: 1st Class, Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun, Paulownia Flowers)[16]
勲一等旭日大綬章 (literally: 1st Class, Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun)[16]

Meritocracy and Its Discontents:
Long-run Effects of Repeated School Admission Reforms
Mari Tanaka Yusuke Narita Chiaki Moriguchi∗
November 30, 2021
https://ies.keio.ac.jp/upload/20221014appliedpaper.pdf
In the pre-WWII Japanese honor system, the the medals for merit (kuntou in Japanese)
and the court ranks (ikai in Japanese) were conferred on individuals in recognition of their
exceptional public service or distinguished merit. The medals consisted of 8 grades from the
first order of merit (the highest honor) to the eighth order of merit (the lowest honor), and
the court ranks consisted of 16 ranks from senior first rank (the highest rank) to junior eighth
rank (the lowest rank). According to Ogawa (2009), the highest honors are given mostly
to public servants (such as top-ranking military officers, bureaucrats, and politicians), while
individuals in a private sector (such as top corporate executives) receive the fourth order
of merit and below. Given this, we define prestigious medal recipients as those who receive
at least the fifth order of merit (kungotou in Japanese) or the junior fifth rank (jugoi in
Japanese) .
  Comments:
I believe the numbered system identified by [1] has essentially been replaced. If you look here, you'll see an alignment between 勲等 system and modern naming:
https://kotobank.jp/word/勲等

reverso has a lot of "medals for merit". Not sure how I feel about this, but it is the translation used by a scholarly (prepublication, don't know what for) Japanese paper from Keio.

The wikipedia xref is to the whole system of Japanese honors. progressive (book result) says "an order of merit", which was my initial thought. Big difference between "an order of merit" and "the order of merit". sankoku's definition still seems correct, which would be sense[2]. Even this usage seems to have been deprecated in recent years, with the classes/orders being completely dropped.

This interesting note is in shinsen's entry for 部首:
「氵(さんずい)」や「⺾(くさかんむり)」などの偏旁冠脚(へんぼうかんきゃく)を部首というのは、本来は誤り。

In their entries for 偏旁冠脚, most of the refs refer to the components as 構成部分 rather than radicals (部首).

koj uses both "構成要素" and "部首."

Most of the refs also mention that 偏旁冠脚 can, in a broad sense of the word, refer to other structural components.
[4] "kanji radical enclosing the top-left corner of a character"
[4] "kanji enclosure type radical (must enclose at least two sides of the kanji)"
[1] "kanji radical that runs from the left to the bottom part of the kanji"
  Comments:
Strictly speaking, the components aren't necessarily radicals. But it sounds like even native speakers sometimes use them interchangeably.

It might be less confusing to refer to them as "components" or something rather than radicals.

This is an odd duck.

Was going to say to move to names dict. But it's a bit of a challenge to figure out what it specifically was.

Maybe some historic connection to 寄席 ("Vaudeville Theatre", hence "Variety Theatre"?) Maybe in a period text from the turn of the last century this could have been mentioned without explanation? I guess this would be useful in such a case. I wonder how this entry came to be...

We don't have an entry for 若竹. daijs has a definition: bamboo newly sprouted in the current year :) Image search suggests this might actually be worth an entry.

not in sankoku.

just grabbed all the kanji forms from 助ける. Listed them in identical order, they are all similar-ish in the ngrams anyway, might as well be consistent.

Seems like "the kind of arch Japanese people might be familiar with from books". Since it's not in sankoku, [arch] seems preferable to [form] to me. Not likely to cause much harm.

google trans(Note google also has "social worker" stuck to this term):
A social worker is someone who performs labor without expecting anything in return. Service has the meaning of serving one's country, society, or superiors. Therefore, acts of service refer to labor performed without expecting anything in return.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satoko_Kitahara
Satoko Kitahara (北原 怜子, Kitahara Satoko, 22 August 1929 – 23 January 1958) – later known as Elisabeth Maria Kitahara – was a Japanese Roman Catholic
Kitahara made it her goal to tend to the impoverished and orphaned as well as the sick and poor who were suffering as a result of the damage inflicted during the war. In 1950 she first met the Conventual Franciscan friar Zenon Żebrowski and the two worked together to care for destitute people and children in the riverside Ants Village. This work became the focus for Kitahara's life until she died from tuberculosis in 1958.[4][5]
  Comments:
"social worker" has a pretty strong nuance in the U.S. that differs from what this is. In particular, "social worker" is a profession for which one is duly paid. It is not a question of self-sacrifice or volunteer work.

Rather than [see="more appropriate term for social worker"], I think this gloss should just be something else.

What would be the stereotypical description of Mother Theresa? (setting aside controversy). Someone who dedicates their life to serving those in need. That's what this term seems to be. If you google it, you get a Japanese Roman Catholic woman's wikipedia entry, described as a "社会奉仕家" in the intro(in fact, you'll get several different websites referring to this one woman). No such simple gloss exists on the English side to compare to.

If you search reverso, it seems likely that the one "social worker" entry is E->J, probably plucked from here.

eijiro:
"servant of the public"

A little too close to "public servant" for me, which is again quite different.

  Comments:
There's a sort of logical observation here that I think is correct. を出す is to deliberately do something (see the hinative suggestion that 頑張ろう = 精を出そう). 精が出る is an observation in the moment, or after-the-fact. The dictionary examples are all "to a worker in a field", or some such: 精が出ますね "you sure are doing great work today!"

I get the strong impression that this is used as an observation of someone else's performance: "he's really giving it his all today isn't he", "you're really doing exceptional work today", that sort of thing...

As such, I don't think the glosses should match You can say 精を出そう, or 精を出すつもり, but there is no way to do this with 精が出る.

精が出ますね is potentially an [exp] on its own:
御精が出ますね	66	3.6%
ご精が出ますね	324	17.8%
精が出ますね	1435	78.6%

This is an interesting one.

精が出ない: (a commentary on their own condition)
https://ameblo.jp/spiral-jump/entry-12572684621.html

This is a bit like 元気が出る、元気が出ない. This might be a legitimate construction(both halves exist, but I made this up):
精を出そうとしても、精が出なかった。

Certainly the negation is a bit more nuanced than "wasn't working hard". More like "couldn't do my best", "didn't have the willpower to focus on work". hmm

This term is euphemistic("royal road"). One would never guess from 王道 that there was a 的 form, and one would never guess that 王道的 is limited specifically to sense[3] of 王道. If you see 王道的 in a text, you'll have to puzzle about which sense it is. 34608 ngrams seems common enough to me that this clarity would be useful.

I saw your comment earlier on the Token Arakawa line, so I was happy to add this. I've also taken this train, just a handful of times though.

I've never heard a Japanese person call it this as a tool for commuting. It seems to be a cutesy marketing term for foreigners, as one of the last remaining "tram" lines in Tokyo. And I think you're still right, when they say "it's a nick name", I don't think it's a nickname Japanese commuters gave it ;)

Ah, wikipedia has a note. The name was voted and adopted in 2017, explicitly for marketing. An easy-to-understand name for foreigners tourists.

And this is what that became(so, perhaps, mission accomplished?):

Tokyo has an adorable little tram called the Sakura Tram! It’s the nickname for the Toden Arakawa Line, one of only two streetcar lines serving the massive metropolis....

I lived on that tram line in 2000/2001. Never heard it called that.

What is Tokyo Sakura Tram (Toden Arakawa Line)?
  Comments:
I screwed up the xref by duplicating it (and then deleting it). Sorry about that.
