They're not ateji (in the narrow sense) for ビロード either. Rather, ビロード is a gikun. But we're not consistent on this. We don't typically use [gikun] when it's the entry's sole reading.

  Comments:
The previous orthography appears to be almost entirely unused(google returns the usual jmdictdb suspects). I think it is best dropped(*zero* book results). Doesn't even merit an [sk].

Here's a nice list of English euphemisms under the title 婉曲表現. It includes things like "unemployed" -> "between jobs", "fart" -> "break wind", "beer, liquor" -> "adult beverages", "euthanize" -> "put to sleep".
https://bbtonline.jp/blog/tips/euphemism/

I think the wikipedia headword "婉曲法" is "the concept of euphemism" more than "a euphemism", which is what we probably want most of the time.

The sanseido article seems to be treating 婉曲語 as a single-word euphemism ("God" ->"gosh", "Jesus (Christ)" -> "gee").

The xref is also reverso's strong preference for "euphemism"

sankoku:意識不明の重体(critical state of unconsciousness, the 体重 itself is not unconscious), reverso, image search

This will be glossed as "unconscious" 95% of the time, but also: 意識不明に陥る

eijiro has an extensive list of collocations for unconscious humans.

Does not appear to mean "senselessness" (i.e. a senseless act), but if so, would be a second sense.

Does not appear to be metaphorical, i.e "unconsciously...". This has been unclear to me for years, hence "(physical)."

Interestingly, sankoku misidentifies as adj-na, perhaps influenced by 不明. This is a weird term. It feels weird to think this could be a noun at all, but it seems to be...

That said, I don't necessarily object to reversing to [adj-no,n] and glossing as
(physically) unconscious

Most *不明 terms do this, but I am not sure with this one.

wordreference enters this under "unconsciousness" as well, though it is a bare bones entry.

None of my refs mention 地獄 in their entries except for nikkoku. Most of them have 冥土 instead. The xref doesn't seem necessary for either.

The "underground spring" sense in the refs is only mentioned as the original meaning if it's mentioned at all. I'm moving it to the second sense.

ふんいき vs ふいーき 雰囲気 Japanese pronunciation
(summary: Japanese woman acts like "ふんいき" is the "proper" pronunciation, then finds that she actually says ふいーき when speaking naturally)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saidi3VDt2w

ふんいき	26723	32.5%
ふいんき	55396	67.4% <-- this is an absurdly high occurrence as a *written* "mistake"
ふいーき	42	0.1%

and, under the proper 雰囲気 entry: "「ふいんき」はあやまり"
  Comments:
Any chance of a [note], something like
[note: "often pronounced ふいんき in spoken form"] under [1]?

Such a note might be an exception here, but this term is actually exceptional. The term may be *the* example of a word-in-transformation in Japanese.

I was *taught* to say "hwinki", in Japan, in a Japanese classroom, by a late-20s/early-30s Japanese teacher. The impression was that your speech would sound a bit stilted if you tried to say huniki. (perhaps like "whatcha doin?"/ "what are you doing")

Even for search-only forms, if the counts are <1000 and <0.1%, it's probably not worth adding. No harm in having it but I wouldn't have bothered with ふいん気.

On "shading":
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokashi_(printing)
Itabokashi, or 'block shading,' is a technique used to produce ruffled edges on areas of color.

More Basics of Gradation Printing ('Bokashi')

Bokashi (gradations or blending)
...
O-bokashi (wide gradation) is a gradual shading over a wide area. To achieve this, the technique of the standard bokashi is repeated a number of times, each time narrowing the space to be shaded.

  Comments:
Image search for "ぼかし" is a lot of blurred stuff.

Note: ぼかし袴 returns images of hakama with a clear gradient effect.

"bokashi", somewhat like "bokeh", seems to have been imported into English in some circles, both as a composting technique and as an art style. If I had a nickel for every website that said:
Bokashi (ぼかし) is Japanese for "shading off" or "gradation."
I'd have a lot of nickels. Usually these are sites about composting.

Most of the terms in one reverso match:
2ぼかし量を変更する グラデーション領域内のぼかし(グラデーション)の幅を調節できます。
To change the amount of blur You can adjust the width of the blur (gradient) of the gradation in the area.

========== Note: [1] and [2] may be of no real relation:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokashi_(horticulture)
Nomenclature
The name bokashi is transliterated from spoken Japanese (ぼかし). However, Japanese-English dictionaries give the word an older artistic meaning: "shading or gradation" of images – especially applied to woodblock prints.[1][2] This later extended to mean pixellation or fogging in censored photographs. Therefore, its application to fermented organic matter is of uncertain origin; if both uses are related, unifying concepts may be "alteration" or "fading away".

幸臣 ngrams are inflated by being a name. Yukito/Yukiomi. I did find an example of 幸臣 on yourei.jp used with this sense.

Neither exists on google news (except 幸臣 in a couple of names). [arch] seems safe.

Google book results return plenty of both forms in non-name looking contexts (I tried の幸臣/の倖臣)

"courtier" felt a bit out of place. Maybe it isn't, but it probably merits the same gloss as the xref.

  Comments:
We do now include the capitalised form in the lsrc tag whenever the gloss is lowercase. It wasn't until a few years ago that we started doing this consistently.
I don't think フリカデル comes from German. The spelling suggests a French origin ("fricadelle"). I found some support for this online. I suggest splitting out フリカデレ (which definitely comes from German) into a separate entry.
Might as well add a sense for frikandel.

None of the works cited assume that the readers already know what the word means. References like these don't make a convincing case that a word is an established term that is worth recording in a dictionary.

Since the word is rare, slangy, and describes a short-lived phenomenon from 20 years ago that may have never been widespread, I wouldn't object to dropping the entry.

If it stays I think we need mention something about this being "in front of an audience," since that's the key aspect that distinguishes this from ブルセラ.

I originally saw this in Hideo Yamamoto's manga series Homunculus (~2004): https://i.imgur.com/fkF0Zph.png. You're probably not seeing many modern results because the practice was made illegal, but the references show that this was a thing.
