No need to explain what roux is.
Certainly curry roux is made from curry powder. I don't think ルー refers to a powder itself. None of my refs describe it as such.

Sankoku describes the "sauce" sense as colloquial.

Iwanami's kokugo is the only one I know which does both 他自 and 自他. By the way, Iwakoku and shinsen kokugo jiten are also the only ones (that I know of) with の-adjective tags like we have.

I'm not saying we should change our policy, but I'll just note that iwakoku has 自他 on this word.

Image search... Images in kokugos (in kotobank). All links have pictures.

2012 submission linked the "Iron" article from wikipedia and called it "an iron". It's the first iron listed in a chronologic history of all iron-like tools used in Japan.

Perhaps as a descriptive historic term that is not in practical use, 火熨斗 actually seems more prevalent in both yourei results and google results.

斗 is the kanji for ladle. the iron is roughly shaped like a ladle. The kanji mean fire + unwrinkling + ladle. We could make this entry slightly useful for kanji learners by making this association explicit in the gloss (as I have done). Or something like a literal translation of daijs: "wood-handled, flat-bottomed metal bowl into which heated coals are placed, used for ironing clothes."

I was going to just say "traditional charcoal heated clothing iron", but even that is inadequate, as new-fangled devices used charcoal for a while longer. Such as this(unrelated, not a hinoshi):

Maybe I shouldn't copy/paste the whole explanation, but who knows which site will outlive which, and it's a good set of comments.

辞書によると憤るの訓読みは「いきどおる」と「むずかる」がありますけど...
https://ja.hinative.com/questions/13468854
  Comments:
I can't mark kanji forms [rK] on a [uk] entry, but I'm pretty sure [oK] still applies. If the random hinative reference is to be believed, this is a word with an official orthography, and it's hiragana. 憤る in a newspaper will *always* be いきどおる.

As some confirmation, sankoku does not give kanji for this term at all (and it contains some crazy kanji, like 憤懣). Everything I've looked at suggests 憤る will be taken as いきどおる in modern Japanese, and even in old texts, 憤る will only be read as むずかる when discussing babies and small children specifically. (sankoku says "小さい子供などが"...)

Right now 憤る appears to have an ambiguous reading(which is exactly why the hinative question was posed). It would appear that it's not really that ambiguous, and we can easily clarify this for anyone who sees both 憤る entries here.

More stats on backref (I started there first before finding the hinative details). I recommend merging. We don't *usually* have standalone entries for prescriptive "mistakes", and the kokugos identify the backref as a common misunderstanding/error, which might be better as [sK] or [io] to here.

venting the day's frustrations by punching holes in the walls:
熊田はアパートの壁を破壊することで、一日の鬱憤を晴らした。
  Comments:
晴らす seemed like it should be more positive than the gloss suggested, something like this:

効果的に鬱憤を晴らす、6つの手段 <-- google translate: "6 ways to effectively release your frustration"
(answer: yell out loud, kick, write, exercise, talking, making beautiful things)
https://www.lifehacker.jp/article/0903096/

Well, it is, but it isn't always. Maybe subtle, but the specific combination "to vent one's anger" looks to me like "unleashing one's rage upon", vs. the combinations I've given. ("release" softens "anger", "vent" pairs with the weaker "frustration").

Certainly yourei examples are a mix. Sometimes yelling into the air. Sometimes just sharing complaints with someone for an hour. Sometimes punching walls. Sometimes jogging, or revving the engine in the car. Or skiing. Or dedicating oneself to mastering the sword.

I'm guessing you won't want more than one of:
"to blow off (some) steam"
"to let off (some) steam"

  Comments:
The jisho.org wikipedia cross-ref pointed this out, and reverso confirms. "Empirical" does not strictly imply "experimentation", only observation, and 実証 vs 実験 would seem to be the same distinction. Given that, and that 実験研究 seems perfectly effective for "experimental study" or "experimental research" if that's what you mean, I'm not sure it's actually helpful to keep either of those as a sometimes-maybe gloss(even though eijiro has it. It also has "demonstration research", so... ).

We do not have 実験研究, might be worth adding, A+B though it may be.

http://imagict.com/ja/words/憤ろしい
憤ろしい - 和英辞典
[ 形 ] exasperating , infuriating , maddening , vexing
■ extremely annoying or displeasing

yourei example:
具体的には我慢のならないほど憤ろしいことなのだった。
another:
その灼やきつくような眸は、憤ろしい涙にうるんでいる。

A single example with 憤ろしい and 腹立たしい back to back (probably to mix up the vocabulary)
高田の言う通り、江崎はファウスリーゼに一方的な妄想を抱いていたようだった。それが裏切られたのが憤ろしいのだろう。腹立たしいのはファウスリーゼも同じだった。

Simple: "It is infuriating": 憤ろしいのである
太郎が眠って終っているから一人で出た。憤ろしいのである。リツ子の母が可也君の炭代を出してくれぬ。
  Comments:
As a one word translation, google gives "infuriating". "憤ろしい人" doesn't exist (google).

The object of 憤ろしい, when given explicitly, seems to usually be the cause of outrage, not the person feeling it. daijs gives 腹立たしい, which we gloss in this way. sankoku: 腹が立ってたまらない気持ちだ。

sankoku says 文, so I'm picking [form] over [rare]. But:
腹立たしい	196914	99.9%
憤ろしい	133	0.1%

Happened to find a direct comment on this that probably applies to a lot of [rare][form]. "Haven't used once in my life, a lot of Japanese people probably couldn't even read it":
https://ja.hinative.com/questions/16085136
現代の日本語としては、ほぼ使われません。僕も人生で一度も使ったことがありません。「憤ろしい」を「いきどおろしい」と読めない日本語ネイティブが多い、というくらい稀な言葉です。
かなり強めに腹を立てる感じだと思います。

This is what I would imagine as [form][rare]. We have a lot of these.

Now, it seems like there is another usage. Yourei has "憤ろしい顔" and "憤ろしい涙", where it probably just means "angry face/tears" (as google translates). But "腹立たしい" will generate the same examples.

「憤る(むずがる)」や、「難しい(むずかしい)」などです。
  Comments:
I see this has been previously discussed.

Recommend doing the merge previously considered, with むずかる being marked as irregular/erroneous/nonstandard in some way. Extra datapoint: sankoku does not give kanji *at all* for the xref むずかる(and has no entry at all for むずがる). More comments at xref, but in modern Japanese neither むずかる nor もずがる have a kanji form(except maybe in old texts, or as a curiosity). No one should *choose* use use 憤 to write either, unless they are deliberately playing games.

On furigana.info, 憤 is basically never used for this reading. The 0.2% むず at the bottom is someone who wrote 憤かり, which is not a standard orthography anyway.

For the moment marked [col] for lack of anything else. It's prescriptively an error. here's asahi shinbun telling their readers they're wrong:
http://www.asahi.com/special/kotoba/quiz/SDI201505204648.html

Of course, the fact that such an article exists is a testament to the fact that this *is* a word in practice. Still, I think it could be comfortably merged into the xref, and benefit from one set of notes/xrefs.

  Comments:
Could possibly be combined with むずかる. Though the ref doesn't give the kanji (憤る) as a headword, so I'm not sure if someone would actually write 憤る with the reading むずがる.
Also, this would presumably be [uk] if it were given the kanji, while I'm not sure if むずかる should be [uk] or not (due to 憤る hits for いきどおる confusing things).

Adding because 外人向け is in here. It's A+B, but also super common, so... add this, or delete the other one?

"for foreigners" is super common as a gloss. I want to say "aimed at", "designed for", but in practice these are situational and not so common. xref offers them as a suggestion, and explains the term.

It's funny, Japanese teachers are always berating us foreigners for saying gaijin, but we use it to describe ourselves all the time (at least, the otherwise well-treated Americans certainly do).

Yes, I saw it being used for observing maiko too. I think it's broader than just a ticket to something.

I don't think "appreciation fee" works at all. If that's on Reverso it's a good reminder to take the translations on there with a pinch of salt. I don't like "observation fee" either - it's too literal, and googling it I just get Japanese pages.

I came across the word in reference to maiko dance shows, but most hits are for movie theaters. In those cases, "ticket price" would obviously be the best translation, so I think it should stay.
