I don't think we need アレ in the readings field.

This item has no attached statistics at all, so maybe the parsers considered this 給料+日. But it's quite common.

My own intuition is that "payday", one word, is taking over. (old movie titles are two words, new ones are one word....) Wikipedia headword is two words, but twitter seems 5-to-1 for "payday" on googits.

  Comments:
Nothing like Stephen Kraus' argument, was stated before, so the re-addition of the lit gloss, was still perfectly justified.
Stephen Kraus' argument is a decent argument against a lit gloss, in this instance.

I'd argue, however, that the only gloss that isn't that dissimilar to a literal gloss, is the last one.
The "the weak become the victim of the strong" one
...and I don't think that one, is really all that accurate. (it's meaning is too specific/strict/narrow, to describe the meaning of the idiom. It's closer to the literal meaning, which is more narrow, but...)
It seems more like a very contrived attempt at a gloss that is similar to the literal meaning.

Thus, it is better to just remove it.
...which leaves a situation, where a lit gloss would seem to be fully justified, by Stephen Kraus' standard.

  Comments:
I think [lit] glosses probably only make sense when they're substantially different from the others. I.e. when an idiomatic expression means something completely different on its face from its idiomatic meaning, and when such a difference requires some supplemental explanation for the reader.

For example, 山が見える could definitely be used both figuratively or literally, so having a [lit] gloss makes a lot of sense.

For a lot of these [yoji] entries, the [lit] glosses don't add much and often sound a bit awkward.

I'm guessing even civil servants are unlikely to use this to describe their own pay, but I couldn't say for sure.

Adding (e.g.) and xrefing "俸給" is probably redundant. One or the other would make the point. This term gets modern google hits, but you'd be in a very interesting place as a Japanese learner to encounter it naturally.

I think it's helpful in this case. A lot of people looking for the Japanese word for "raisin" will search "raisins". Note that the gloss for 豌豆 is "green peas".

干しぶどう and レーズン should be consistent, though.

Sankoku gives only じょ. daijs gives じょ, and includes 《「しんりょうしょ」とも》. Wiktionary has very detailed pronunciation with じょ, listing しょ as an alt with minimal details. The relative ngram counts are not that informative, as this is rarely written in kana.

[名](スル)相手に杯を差し出して敬意を表すこと。こんぱい。「主賓に―する」
[補説]「故人をしのんで献杯します」のように、亡くなった人を悼いたんで杯を捧げることをもいう。

https://www.koekisha.co.jp/chiebukuro/kenpai/

Google results are all about doing it at a 納骨式, 法要) etc. I heard it used at this kind of occassion as well. The toaster (in his 60s or 70s, to an audience of people mostly in their 80s) said sth to the effect of ”乾杯…というか、こういうときに『献杯』というらしいです。" so it's apparently not a word you expect people to be aware of.   Comments:
I just had occasion to look at all the "payday"/"pay day" entries, and this seems quite unlike the others. In particular, 給料 is receiving, 支払 feels like "paying". I.e. this is a "payday" only from the employer's perspective.

The most common use of 支払日 seems to be on a credit card statement.

eijiro has:
賃金の支払日
payday〔不可算〕
and
給与の支払日
payday〔不可算〕

But I think, again, this is from the employers perspective?

Here's a site from a business regulation point of view, saying when you are-and-are-not allowed to set your employees pay day.
https://jsite.mhlw.go.jp/tokyo-roudoukyoku/yokuaru_goshitsumon/tingin/q4.html
Q4.賃金の支払日を「月の第4金曜日に支払う」と定めてもよいでしょうか?

On another site, google translates this:
ほとんどの会社は月に1回の給与の支払日を決めていて
as:
most companies set a monthly salary payment date and pay your salary accordingly

I think this is more appropriate here than "payday".

Maybe displaying one form which has all the kanji is enough (鴨が葱を背負って来る).
I'm hiding the other 7 kanji forms and dropping all the other readings.

年俸制とは?
年俸制とは、ひとりの労働者に支払う給与金額を1年単位で決める給与形態のこと。英語で、「annual salary system」「annual salary scheme」と表記されるのです。

Every reference (4 or 5) here but us just gives "system":
https://ejje.weblio.jp/content/年俸制

eijiro:
年俸制
    annual salary system
    annual wage plan
    yearly contract system
  Comments:
We have 257 entries where 制 is glossed as "system", and 2 as "scheme". I think this usage is British.

eijiro and all the weblio refs just use "system".

("scheme" has been used by Japanese translators in the past, but I still wouldn't recommend it just for that)
