Comments: | not a super-common collocation, A+B in English and in Japanese. Totally understandable without this entry. I'm not sure if this falls into a specific field either. Way simpler to delete than identify fields properly. Here's a pdf from computing: https://www.scsk.jp/sp/sysdig/whitepaper/upload/SysdigSecureBenchmark.pdf It's just addressing the computer program ("task") that runs the benchmark. Comments: | Changed nothing. I said on another edit I was going to drop [adj-no] here. I think 的 is the safe usage (eijiro backs this up 100%), but there seems to by plenty of の usage in the wild, and I did get a reference for it: https://kotobank.jp/esjaword/hipocrita 小学館 西和中辞典 第2版 [形] 偽善的な,偽善の. All example sentences used 的. 的 is bold, の is not. I think that の results are at least inflated by coincidental usage. Such as: こと example (not adj-no here, I don't believe): それは彼らの偽善のことです |

Image searches for 仰向き are all laying face up in bed. 仕方がない I guess. yourei examples even use 少し俯き加減, which should otherwise be redundant. 少し俯き 1937 少し俯き加減 863 <--- 1937 includes these as well 少し俯きながら 373 <--- and these, which are verbal uses of 少し俯く |

Comments: | The jisho.org wikipedia cross-ref pointed this out, and reverso confirms. "Empirical" does not strictly imply "experimentation", only observation, and 実証 vs 実験 would seem to be the same distinction. Given that, and that 実験研究 seems perfectly effective for "experimental study" or "experimental research" if that's what you mean, I'm not sure it's actually helpful to keep either of those as a sometimes-maybe gloss(even though eijiro has it. It also has "demonstration research", so... ). We do not have 実験研究, might be worth adding, A+B though it may be. 実験研究 27541 37.1% 実証研究 46683 62.9% |

Comments: | Was going to [adj-no] this, but on further thought, this is pedestrian and A+B and not particularly common vs. other forms we don't have. (We have 外人向け, oddly, but not 外国人向け).. The gloss is also maybe wrong. 向き vs 向け is subtle indeed, but we actually record the distinction: 向き suited to; suitable for; designed for 向け 1. intended for ...; oriented towards ...; aimed at ... So "muki" is potentially aimed at many audiences, but not explicitly for foreigners. I guess. 8 years of Japanese and I don't really know. |

Comments: | I question whether this was ever used in computing, and whether it needs a gloss or xref to ベンチマーク. Book results seem to be compatible with the weblio definition, usually having 工事 in the title. I gave it a go, and I've left what I've found in the refs. I'm feel "medium" about this gloss. Just wanted to strip "benchmark". I put a good amount of effort in, but there's no silver-bullet conclusive reference I can find. It seems a bit "A+B", where different contexts might yield different, simple-enough interpretations. This might be one of those "better to delete it than have an incorrect gloss" situations. Not in the kokugos that I can see, but eijiro has it in a few places with the simple-but-wholly-ambiguous gloss. This alignment give a good hint as to one possible sense: Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations https://www.mhlw.go.jp/topics/idenshi/codex/06/dl/cac_gl72.pdf 選定された基準試験所(reference laboratory) And here's a good string (which might be a different sense). Comments: | Took the two most common reverso glosses that were also in eijiro. This term is not limited to computing. Either gloss would be fine in computing. Image searches are about evaluating *housing* performance. Didn't look into it further. No need for "benchmark" as a gloss. The current Japanese word for computer benchmark is "ベンチマーク". No major harm translating a computer benchmarking situation as "performance evaluation", even if this was the only translation in texts from the 90s. |

Refs: | enwiki: Torah has a range of meanings. It can most specifically mean the first five books of the Hebrew Bible. This is commonly known as the Written Torah. brit: The meaning of “Torah” is often restricted to signify the first five books of the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament), also called the Law (or the Pentateuch, in Christianity). Jewishvirtuallibrary.org: The Torah, or Jewish Written Law, consists of the five books of the Hebrew Bible - known more commonly to non-Jews as the "Old Testament"... |

Comments: | To be clear, this looked to me like it *should* be the equivalent to the English idiom "tailor-made", so I went off hunting for that and found someone to agree with me. 誂える is "to have made to order", this feels like an almost-identical derivation in English and Japanese. Wouldn't have edited this all, except for this and the back-ref are the first two terms that come back when searching "ends-with-向き", and they were obviously the same, but not aligned. I've reversed the xrefs (and not even cross-ref'd). daijs makes the rare statement: 多く「おあつらえむき」の形で https://dictionary.goo.ne.jp/word/誂え向き/ eijiro only gives おあつらえ向き forms, and if you google あつらえ向き you'll be hard pressed to find it without お. Book results reveal some unadorned 誂え向き. I just attempted to remove [pol] from onigiri, so it feels inconsistent to put it here if this is the only form used in practice. But perhaps the whole expression is polite and that's the reason it's here, in which case it's fine. Usage with な seems very limited, with very few collocations except 場所. xref/backref has adj-na there, but I think the entry is better without. |

Comments: | Not sure that these glosses capture the nuance correctly. I think this word describes a type of relationship characterized by a high degree of mutual understanding. Something closer to "finishing each other's sentences," "reading each other's minds," "operating on the same wavelength," etc. The current glosses are closer in meaning to something like "being mentally acute / alert / sharp" or "being able to read the room." |
