I don't mind "attraction" over "obsession" or "prebubescent" over "young" but I'm not seeing the point of adding rare words like "gynephilic" to secondary glosses (as this meaning is already obvious from the second gloss). It's true a woman could flippantly call herself a "lolicon" despite not being a man but that's true for a lot of gendered language/words and without qualifiers, I don't think anybody would ever assume this word refers to anything but a man.

sexual obsession doesn't make much sense, kokugos tend to use 性愛の対象 which is closer to sexual attraction
using "young girls" (or "very young girls" by gg5) seems pretty euphemistic, kokugos do use 少女 which is ambiguous but nobody would use ロリコン for someone attracted to a 17yo girl. + they often do add 幼女 to be more clear, so prepubescent is a better rendering in my opinion.
"gynephilic" (or a synonym) is needed because "pedophile" alone implies that ロリコン could be someone sexually attracted to prepubescent boys as well which is not the case.
i guess "esp. male" is the most controversial change. i think this image of ロリコン is due to the male-dominated otaku culture (and most pedophiles being male). it's fair to include it, but it doesn't seem *necessary* to be a ロリコン which is probably why many kokugos don't mention it all.

  Comments:
Given the extensive discussion last year about edits to this entry, I think case should be made for these proposed changes. Justification for the inclusion of gynephilic is needed.

Yes, I'd stick with [arch] for sense 3. I think "life-in-another-knights-and-dragons-fantasy world" counts as "during or before the Edo period".

Well, after hopping over to なんじ/thee/thou, I guess this is [arch], and sankoku probably says 文 because literature and fiction is the only place it appears.

It still seems that most [arch] terms here are [rare]/unlikely-to-be-recognized, so it would be nice if there were some distinction. But I guess if you read the kind of books where this appears, you'll figure it out. I still think a split might be appropriate.

This has its own entry in sankoku, so perhaps not quite [arch]:
[文]君父が臣下を呼ぶことば。なんじ。おんみ。「ーら=諸君」は…].

some けい examples(I have no idea of the age or context):
https://furigana.info/w/卿:けい

a few lines from the anime where I encountered this, if curious:
卿(けい)に見せるのは初めてだったな

卿とナツキ・スバルの関係は ― 卿は聞き及んでいるのか? どうして卿(けい)は そこまで...ナツキ・スバルに尽くせる? (speaker, listener, both female)

卿は私にとって敵ということになる

...
  Comments:
Previous comment discussed breaking off [3] as its own entry. Given that this is evidently in modern use, I would be in favor.

[3]/けい came up in a "life-in-another-knights-and-dragons-fantasy world" anime/manga. It was used repeatedly as a 2nd person pronoun (the "lower status" relationship was definitely present, speaker was a high-class candidate for ruler of an entire midlevel-ish fantasy realm), with the reading けい. (used ~40 times over two seasons, based on searching the Japanese subtitles). (a few of this were [1], as a suffix to a name, but I heard "kei" repeatedly in a fairly extended dialog and had no idea what it meant).

Not claiming that anime dictates "correct" usage, but for reference the speaker was female. Pronoun was used for both female and male recipients. Both might be considered "subjects" in a broad sense(speaker was making a claim to leadership), but they were actually lower-level members of a competing faction. sankoku says nothing at all about gender(obviously in a real historical context, the players would generally be male, but this seems unnecessary to specify, and possibly just incorrect).

The editorial policy does not seem to have guidance on [arch] for this kind of thing(i.e. simple vocabulary). [arch] on kanji and verb forms seems to point towards modern unrecognizability. I usually read [arch] as "ignore this information for practical purposes". Apparently not quite the case here. It looks like this term is *maybe* [arch] in the way that "thou" is [arch] in English. i.e. still-in-well-understood use for historical flavoring. (Maybe there are other modern uses of 卿/けい, I wouldn't know). (The subtitles gave okurigana for the first use of 卿 in each episode it was used, I don't know how globally understood this would be, or if a reader would just pick it up from context and knowing the "sense" of 卿.)

Incidentally, we have なんじ(汝) as [arch], おんみ(御身) is not. These are both in sankoku as 文 as well . 汝's definition is simply "おまえ". おんみ gets two senses, one of which matches ours, the other is 古風(...circumstances of use...)あなた。なんじ.

searching subtitles of the same series, 汝 appears once in the regular series, but 20 times in a single two-hour side-movie (different context demanded it, I guess). 御身 appears 3 times(no furigana).

[2]交際が親密であること。ねんごろ。

daijs[2]: 親切な心。

"close relationship" comes up a few times. Saying "close friendship" might be saying a bit too much.

  Comments:
"kindness" did not seem to fit the others in [1]. After searching, seems there is a distinct sense in the kokugos, so I have split.

Not confident on what to do with [2] because it's hard to find clear examples of. wiktionary just says "親切", kokugos say 親切な心. [2] seems absent from sankoku, wiktionary marks 古用法. First reference likens to 「親切な気持ち」や「好意」, I've xrefed the latter. [dated] suggests old-fashioned, this seems to be no longer in use, in favor of a different common meaning, so I've guessed [obs].

For [1], seems like the usual collocation is ~にしている, but we don't have that one. ("to be on intimate terms with", rather than "become close friends with"). Might be worth adding, in eijiro:

be on friendly terms with

sankoku gives this antonym for [1], weblio has exactly one antonym and it is the same:

対義語・反対語	縮小	⇔	拡大
  Comments:
I made a mistake. sankoku does not [ant] to 散大, it xrefs to 拡大(i.e. it doesn't mention this "eye" usage at all). I've also found a related formulation for pupil contraction (which we don't have) 瞳孔収縮. 収縮 has a more easily comprehensible gloss in this context. (while ngrams are similar, google finds far more for 瞳孔縮小).

The wikipedia article on miosis uses 縮小 and 収縮 in the same breath, with the latter (perhaps coincidentally, perhaps not) used as a verb to describe the normal contraction of the pupil:

  Comments:
散大 is apparently limited to pupils. This entry is more broad, but is the [ant]/analogue for pupil contraction. See xrefs for confirmation.

I used [ant] because it was already in use for 瞳孔散大, but [see] is fine with me. sankoku seems to flags as [ant].

sankoku gives two senses, neither of which is *limited* to eyes. (So, maybe there is a 3rd sense here, i.e. a split of [1], or maybe it's fine as is). But I split [2] off because it would seem to *not* be [vt] (sankoku otherwise agrees that [1] is [vt,vi]), and I think the xref is valuable.

sankoku and wiktionary's definitions are both "おいしげること". Our gloss for 生い茂る is: "to grow thickly; to be overgrown; to thrive; to grow in abundance"

usually verbal(almost 75% of ngrams). reverso often has "lush" especially, then "flourish" and "overgrowth"

Unfortunately I don't see how to get "lush" in here, which seems quite common. Maybe as a separate [exp] entry "繁茂した" if it were worth it.

  Comments:
See comments on 養分. They all apply here(pretty sure the terms are synonymous). eijiro has some more fanciful glosses under this term, but I don't think they negate the point.

I had to look up what "nutriment" means. I think "nutrient" is actually the correct term in this case.

I like this eijiro gloss:
栄養分を強化したパン
fortified bread

Obviously, it was "nutrients" that were added, not "nutrition".

Looking at the eijiro examples, we could certainly add, for example, an entry "to nourish"
栄養分を与える	1265

But I don't think that makes 栄養分 into "nourishment" (or nutrition).

養分	197392	11.3%

滋養がある	886	10.9%
滋養分がある	24	0.3%
滋養分のある	40	0.5%
  Comments:
The term 成分 used by the kokugos seems to suggest "nutrient" pretty strongly to begin with.

There are unfortunately a few terms that all gloss as "nutrient":
栄養素
栄養分 滋養分(dated) 養分

The nuances vary a bit, it really appears the English glosses are all the same, i.e. "nutrient".

eijiro basically sticks to "nutrient" for 50+ glosses, with only a few contextually morphed into "nutrition", "nutritious", or "nourishment" with specific contexts. For "nourishment" contexts, "nutrient" can always be used instead. reverso is the same, almost entirely "nutrient".

This example from eijiro is a certainly a good translation:
傷んだ肌に栄養分を与える
nourish damaged skin

But I think adding "nourishment" to this entry, or "nutrition", just confuses the term.

Certainly Google searches for 跳ね上る + はね上げる bring upmore hits that for 撥ね上げる + はね上げる. Possibly はね上げる needs to be added to 跳ね上げる as well. Need to think about it.

daijs glosses for 栄養物 and 滋養物 are clearly the same(apart from 栄養素 vs 滋養分). But the few reverso entries for 滋養物 gloss it as "nourishment" (which is agnostic to food or drink).

They are both explicitly not limited to food by daijs(飲食物). daijs says "high in nutrients" but this doesn't appear in eijiro for any translations I've seen. Maybe "nourishment" carries this nuance well enough.

If I think this is a bit [dated], that would be consistent with thinking "nourishment" is a bit dated. I need some other opinions at this point. Maybe "nourishment" does belong at the xref. Maybe some xref terms belong here.

merits a plain "fog" gloss I think. or just "wrapped in". in fog? by fog? "in" wins on the numbers. Maybe "by" is more active (also the "doer" grammatically in Japanese). I don't know.

NOURISHMENT sense 1
… get adequate nutrition both before and during the race.
: FOOD, NUTRIMENT

Oxford:
food or nourishment.
"a feeding tube gives her nutrition and water"

========== Some hits for "nutrients" outside of reverso

https://tr-ex.me/翻訳/日本語-英語/栄養物
get/take (enough)nutrients は、nutrientは形容詞で栄養を含む、滋養になることを言います。また、名詞では、栄養物、栄養になる食物、栄養素を指します。

https://nativecamp.net/blog/20230607-nutrition
栄養摂取はnutrient intake、nutrientは栄養物や栄養素、intakeは食物などの摂取を表すためです。
  Comments:
If kept, I think "nutrients" needs to be plural here (various ~物 terms are plural). This is never 1 nutrient (栄養素).

It doesn't seem like it should be, but the collocations and parallel translations seem to suggest that it is just "nutrition".

Critically, not the "science of nutrition", so some distinction is needed.

"nutriment" could go here, if others here are familiar with the word. It never shows up in reverso, and I've never heard of it myself, and it doesn't come up in reverso at all.

"nourishment" is a synonym, but seems like an awkward(perhaps [dated]) gloss to me. At least, we don't talk about getting nourishment from breakfast cereal. All the translations I see that do this are quite stiff.

I didn't want to confuse "nutrient" given 栄養分 and 栄養素, but it seems there is a case for it. At least it's plural here with some context.

First gloss (general jurisdiction over, Japanese version uses 管轄):
https://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/procedure/note.html
An application for visa is made by the applicant him/herself at the Japanese Embassy / Consulate General with jurisdiction over the area in which the applicant lives or those with jurisdiction over the country of which the applicant’s passport is issued.

The embassy of the Rebublic of Namibia in France also serves("is accredited") to Italy, Portugal and Spain(as they lack embassies). The following vocab is used:

The Embassy of Namibia in Paris was established in 1990, and is accredited to France, Italy, Portugal and Spain.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dual_accreditation
Dual accreditation is the practice in diplomacy of a country granting two separate responsibilities to a single diplomat. One prominent form of dual accreditation is for a diplomat to serve as the ambassador to two countries concurrently.[1] For example, Luxembourg's ambassador to the United States is also its non-resident ambassador to Canada and to Mexico

Bad example of "joint administration":
https://diplomacy.state.gov/encyclopedia/u-s-embassy-khartoum-sudan/
The United States established diplomatic relations with Sudan in 1956 following its independence from joint administration by Egypt and the United Kingdom.
  Comments:
Daijs says "especially embassies serving neighboring countries". Reverso matches were all embassy-related. Google search returned an embassy website, wikipedia search first returns the article for 大使館, followed by the history of the embassy of fiji (which does 兼轄 for several neighboring island nations).

兼轄 = concurrent 管轄. (In addition to daijs, 管轄 is used on the Japanese embassy website for "jurisdiction").

兼~ terms are one entity serving two roles (兼業, 兼務, 兼任, ...)
joint ("administer jointly") suggests two entities sharing one role. That is why I looked into this, and I think the previous gloss was incorrect, or at least ambiguous.

You might have a tighter gloss, but note that the 兼~ terms seem to be necessarily wordy, and are usually given as gerunds:
兼務 1. serving concurrently as; holding the additional post of
兼業 perusing as a side business; doing in addition to one's main work; running (businesses) simultaneously
兼官 holding of concurrent (official) posts; concurrent post

Thank you for the context.

The Japanese Wikipedia and Heibonsha Encyclopedia's entries define 「人狐」 (read にんこ/ひとぎつね) as an evil spirit that possesses humans rather than as a person that turns into a fox.

I am unable to find references supporting established usage of this term as "werefox". Even two resources which often contain jargon related to gaming and pop culture, dic.pixiv.net and dic.nicovideo.jp, come up empty. Unless references can show otherwise, this currently only seems to be a neologism limited to these franchises, coined as a calque by their English–Japanese translators.
1. A* 2023-10-22 20:19:51
  Comments:
This character is used in Western fantasy settings, specifically in Medieval fantasy, and when a character like this is translated into Japanese, the term used is "人狐". You see this in "Magic the Gathering", "Dungeons & Dragons", RPG video games, etc.

Magic the Gathering has a card called "Werefox Bodyguard" which is translated into Japanese as "人狐のボディガード" with the hiragana reading "じんこ".
