The "approx." works fine. We moved to metric nearly 50 years ago. The beef is priced  $N per kg.

I would suggest we pick one, either "3.03 cm", or "approx. 3 cm".  I personally find that latter more appropriate in most cases this dictionary would be used.  "approx." warns the user that more digits are available if they need to do precise calculations in 寸. 

This is a common issue in jmdict with numerical conversions, and there are probably other terms worth visiting, but I'll test the waters with this one.

The U.S. will never move to metric because $3/pound for beef is much simpler than $3 per 0.454kg...

This "tsubo" is often written as 3.3 square meters, but when calculated with 3.3, an error of about 0.05 square meters will occur for 100 square meters. Although it is a slight difference, it can be a big difference in the amount of money in metropolitan areas with high land prices...

I could see 坪当 maybe appearing in some very compact real estate marketing, or I wouldn't bother at all.

Would be nice to indicate why this exists (real-estate pricing, a la price-per-square-foot). The suumo article ties this and the xref together. 

This "(area)" note is used only once in jmdictdb, so it doesn't seem to be a standard.  Just giving the area seems more useful to me. 3.31 meters feels like too many significant digits for this use case. Google says a tsubo is 3.30579 sq meters. Probably the entry for 坪 should be edited.

It's a little odd.

Unless there is something special about 個 that I am unaware of, we could make entries like this for a whole bunch of counters.  For reasons given on previous edit, I think we're better off without this.

In 2011, on the xref 2426510, Jim remarked: "個当り needs to be in its own entry (if there at all.)"

This seems like an odd entry. Surely the morphological parse of  1個あたり　is [1個]あたり, not 1[個あたり].  I think that alone is a strong case to just delete this.

I got to here from 坪当たり. In the that case, it is unambiguous because no one counts prices in units of "two tsubos". Quite a special case. I don't *think* this is an [abbr] of 1個当り.

see 度目 for this "N variable" trick, although I think we usually prefer "..." these days. I think this will probably get deleted in any case.

Two things I've observed trying to reformulate 坪 entries according to jmdict's standards:
- we almost never abbreviate "square" as "sq.". 
- we are quite lax in writing meter/metre in all of the places that we could.  It's done maybe 1/4 of the time, and basically never in these unit-conversion parentheticals.  If only one form is given, it seems like it should be the U.S. spelling.

Time to pull the plug on this.
I did consider 使用機材 but it's very A+B and much less common than a heap of other 使用XX compounds which a probably more worthy of entries.

I understand the argument against including this, but it's is used in delay announcements at airports and onboard planes, and as such seems potentially very helpful to users (whether NJ residents of Japan or foreign tourists travelling here). If it weren't frequently used in the already mentioned context, I would agree an entry is not needed.
At any rate, I think 使用機材 definitely should be an entry.

使用 is used at in 使用XX contexts to mean the current/in-use XX. There are squillion compounds using it which are far more common than 使用機. I don't think this is needed.
