Comments: | Recommend merging with 創成期(see comments there). They shouldn't mean the same thing (創世 = creation of the world), but in practice it appears that they do. To the extent that 創世期 sometimes means "the period of the creation of the world", this is just A+B, and context will sort that out (you can stick 期 to anything). |

Comments: | Both current glosses look like the elimination of people(I know annihilation can work both ways). The most natural gloss for 殲滅力 seems to be "destructive power". "to destroy" is actually more common than "to annihilate" or "to exterminate" on reverso. Moved "annihilation" to the front. It is better at capturing "things and people", and also seems more common as a gloss. Had "(complete) destruction" or "(total) destruction". (or absolute, or complete & total). I'm not sure any of that is necessary with the accompanying glosses. |

Comments: | I think it should be [arch]. There are other terms such as 睡眠不足 (current entry) and 睡眠遮断 which are in the references and which are used for the medical condition. 現責 seems only to be used to refer to the Edo period punishment. I don't think it meets the "term itself is still in current use" criterion for [hist]. |

Refs: | https://www.edrdg.org/wiki/index.php/Editorial_policy > "arch" (archaism). This is typically used to indicate that the term was primarily used during or before the Edo period. > The "hist" (historical) term does not fall into this category. It refers to a past event (e.g. battle, ceremony) or concept (e.g. an art-form common in the 18th century), but the term itself is still in current use. |
|
Comments: | I'm inclined to agree that [hist] makes more sense than [arch] for specific concepts that have not been replaced by modern exact equivalents. But it seems this is contrary to the current editorial policy. The argument on 2858694 by Jim was that the term must still be in current use for it to be [hist]. I don't know if hypothetical papers written about the subject would make the term qualify as being still in use. |

|
Comments: | I didn't realize eijiro had "early days" on 創世期 as well. A search for: site:mainichi.jp "創世期" gives 5 hits, all used like 創成期 or 創生期. For example, one is on the establishment of the Rolex watch company. (創成期 gives >100 actual results, 創生期 13 actual results) [iK] or [sK], I don't get the vibe that it's a good practice to use 創世期, in spite of the ngram occurrence. A lot of potential confusion with 創成期;創生期 ad 創世・創世記(the creation of the world/the Book of Genesis). But then again, perhaps it's not confusion, but deliberate. Maybe we can't [iK] though... I leave it to you |

|
Comments: | 実用日本語表現辞典 puts 創成期 as a variant of 創生期, with a nuance of "founding". 創成期 wins on ngrams, probably because things get founded more than created randomly. But 創生期 may actually be more general. "early days" popped up in eijiro (the only gloss it has, on 創成期). This formulation also shows up in reverso here-and-there, and seems like a pretty natural equivalent to me. Also clarifies the nuance of the whole term. As you might imagine, the glosses for 創生期 are more "creation"-heavy... These kanji are not completely interchangeable, but I don't know if we want *4* entries for そうせいき |

Comments: | I think "spots" are examples of the phenomenon rather than the definition. |

Comments: | Perhaps also "dark spots"(but it can't just be "spots", the meaning would be unclear). Google image search will return photos with little red circles identifying where the screen defects are(little bright spots). (you'll also see all manner of uneven brightness). reverso's "luminance nonuniformity" might be the right gloss if you are writing a technical paper on computer display technology. Not sure we want to give this. In most cases in the context I was in (mercari, phone shopping), this was used to highlight small white spots on the screen. I thought this might be a controversial gloss, but we already have: 色むら: color spotting; color irregularity; color spots Comparison image searches: "bright spots" iphone "uneven brightness" 輝度ムラ (scroll through, you'll see examples of both of the above) |
