処分 = "punishment" nuance here,I think. it is the example in sankoku's 退学 entry. On reverso, 退学 is predominantly [1], 退学処分 is unambiguous.

sankoku does not give [3] at all, says explicitly 途中でやめ. Wikipedia also says 卒業・修了を待たずに学校を途中でやめること

[3] seems like it would be an uncommon usage, given the nuance involved in [1] and [2]. Also, dropped from modern dictionary (sankoku). It's obviously literally correct for A+B reasons, 退+学, but unlikely to be common in this day and age. (marking [rare] or [hist] or [dated] explains that 退学 is not as ambiguous as the 3 senses might otherwise indicate).

Comments on 卑語[2]. Marked 卑語[2] as [obs] because I don't think it is usable with the sense given here. Not sure if this is [obs], [rare], [dated]. IME won't even build this word(either kanji). The reason that ngrams for 鄙言 beat 卑言 would seem to be that this term has fallen into almost complete disuse. Google results suggests it is principally vocab trivia.

"language used in rural areas" is wordy, but this is not a term for anyone to use in practice either. Better that if someone search "vulgar" they don't think to use this. Given that this is rare and dated, given the kokugo definition "slang" seems out of place.

jlogos has "スラング" as 類語 on 卑語 for sense [1], but we don't have "slang" there (nor do I think we should).

Image search for "ぼかし" is a lot of blurred stuff.

Note: ぼかし袴 returns images of hakama with a clear gradient effect.

"bokashi", somewhat like "bokeh", seems to have been imported into English in some circles, both as a composting technique and as an art style. If I had a nickel for every website that said:
Bokashi (ぼかし) is Japanese for "shading off" or "gradation."
I'd have a lot of nickels. Usually these are sites about composting.

Most of the terms in one reverso match:

Nomenclature
The name bokashi is transliterated from spoken Japanese (ぼかし). However, Japanese-English dictionaries give the word an older artistic meaning: "shading or gradation" of images – especially applied to woodblock prints.[1][2] This later extended to mean pixellation or fogging in censored photographs. Therefore, its application to fermented organic matter is of uncertain origin; if both uses are related, unifying concepts may be "alteration" or "fading away".

  Comments:
Both current glosses look like the elimination of people(I know annihilation can work both ways). The most natural gloss for 殲滅力 seems to be "destructive power".

"to destroy" is actually more common than "to annihilate" or "to exterminate" on reverso.

Moved "annihilation" to the front. It is better at capturing "things and people", and also seems more common as a gloss.

Had "(complete) destruction" or "(total) destruction". (or absolute, or complete & total). I'm not sure any of that is necessary with the accompanying glosses.

The English dictionary backed up my intuition for once, saying "dastard" is [dated].

I was going to separate [1] and [2] following 卑怯, but sankoku puts them under one sense, and googling 卑怯者 臆病者 違い suggests that 臆病 is about weakness and timidity(弱虫), while this term is about underhandedness and lack of morals or honor.

There really is only one gloss here. I could say "a cheat", "a dastardly person", "an underhanded person"... These are not practical glosses, they are attempts at a definition. The politician is a coward. Get back here you coward! I ran away, I abandoned my men, I was a coward... Not "I was a dastardly person".

Image search for 卑怯者 returns some nice manga stills.

Reverso examples are all "coward", including a "yellow bellied coward", and
卑怯者ではない I am a man of honor

(Just notice Paul from 2011 on submit. Yes, dastard seems too obscure, and I was initially just going to change to "dastardly person").

2) about something actually smelling of
butter ("my fridge stinks", etc.). There
are some real hits but I'm sure they're
way less common in comparison with バタ臭い

  Comments:
Brian, in response to your comments about adj-no:

Over the past few years, there has been quite a bit of discussion about adj-no and how it should be used. To explain why adj-no is on so many entries where it doesn't seem necessary, here's a (slightly amended) comment I wrote a couple of years ago.

"In the past, adj-no was often added if the (Japanese) word had a corresponding 〜の entry in Eijiro. The problem with this is that Eijiro is a database of English->Japanese translations, meaning that those 〜の entries are actually inverted English->Japanese entries. If you look up 肖像の in Eijiro, you'll see "肖像の:【形】effigial" but the original entry is "effigial:【形】肖像の". Eijiro uses [noun]+の constructions to gloss thousands upon thousands of (often obscure) English adjectives that are derived from nouns. In many cases, a [noun]+の gloss is simply a way of explaining the meaning of an English adjective rather than an indication that the Japanese word is used with の to form an adjective."

In other words, English adjectives were used to determine whether or not Japanese nouns were adj-no. It was also observed that our definition of adj-no ("nouns which may take the genitive case particle 'no'") is so broad that it arguably describes every noun in Japanese, rendering the tag useless.

We tentatively agreed that adj-no should no longer be used in cases where a [noun]+の construction simply means "of [noun]" or "relating to [noun]" (e.g. 数学, as in 数学の問題). The idea was to reserve adj-no for nouns that more closely resemble 形容動詞 when used with の (e.g. 衝撃, as in 衝撃の告白). This distinction is by no means clear-cut. Indeed, a Japanese linguist probably wouldn't recognise a difference between these two uses of の. Nor is it a hard and fast rule. We often ignore it when it's convenient to do so. For example, if a noun is mostly 〜の or prenominal with an "of or relating to" meaning, we'll typically tag it as adj-no and gloss it as an adjective rather than give it an awkward and/or unhelpful noun gloss.

In summary, adj-no is messy and problematic. But even with the ambiguity and inconsistency in this new approach, it seems to be a significant improvement on what we had before. We've so far dropped hundreds of unhelpful adj-no tags and there are still plenty more to work through. Feel free to contribute to the adj-no cleanup, preferably while amending the entries for some other reason. We don't want the pending edits queue clogged up with adj-no removals.

None of these papers were written by Japanese authors and the English text appears to be machine translated. The hpcr.jp links have "translated by Google" icons at the bottom of the pages.

The counts for 血糖症 are always almost exactly equal to the sum of the 〈高/低/過〉 prefixed counts.
It looks like the counts for 血糖症 are all false positives.

I get the impression that the J-Es incorrectly extrapolated from "低血糖症 = hypoglycemia" to "低 = hypo, 血糖症 = glycemia"

It doesn't look like the word glycemia refers to an ailment (症).

As for 血糖症, I'm not sure that it's used as a word by itself. It seems like the n-gram counts are probably from 高血糖症, 低血糖症, etc.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_of_annihilation
A war of annihilation (German: Vernichtungskrieg) or war of extermination is a type of war in which the goal is the complete annihilation of a state, a people or an ethnic minority through genocide or through the destruction of their livelihood.

Wikipedia doesn't have the exact xref, but has the very-related historical topic:

English xref for this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vernichtungsgedanke
Vernichtungsgedanke, literally meaning "concept of annihilation" in German and generally taken to mean "the concept of fast annihilation of enemy forces", is a tactical doctrine dating back to Frederick the Great.

Unfortunately timely vocabulary. Search:
"殲滅戦" イスラエル

Ran into on the comments of a Japanese Youtube news story on Israel and Palestine, unfortunately. A little A+B, but has a clear match in English (wikipedia), and fairly high n-grams.

Haven't seen it in an article-proper yet(much too loaded vocab for the news, maybe), but it its tossed out by commenters. Here's another:
https://news.yahoo.co.jp/articles/7e0cbb4fc3d302b9e4ed814af295b9d36c61a82e
イスラエルの課題は、ハマスの殲滅戦を行う際に百人を超える人質を、どうするか。

And another:
https://b.hatena.ne.jp/robokichi/イスラエル/
国連軍はガザに駐留軍置いてイスラエルの「暴走」を止める必要があるのでは。これ絶対殲滅戦やる気よね。

Top collocation for 殲滅 after する and 速度 (殲滅速度 seems to have a video game connection, damage-per-second).
