Comments: | It sounds plausible that 歯科 could be used colloquially as an abbreviation of 歯科医, 歯科医師, etc., but since it's not in any references, I feel we need to see some examples of actual use. I've done a bit of Googling looking for cases where it's used in the same contexts as 歯科医, etc. but no success. |

Comments: | From personal observation I know that people use "歯科" colloquially like "歯医者", perhaps simply as a shortened form of "歯科医" or "歯科医院". Is there a way to account for this in the dictionary? I don't know, however, if this colloquialism is specific to Okinawa or more widely obervable. |

Comments: | I wouldn't say Saito is "crap", especially considering it was published nearly a hundred years ago. It's a useful source for obsolete/dated terms. I agree with Jim that "monad" is probably a back-formation from 単元論. Shinmeikai has an additional sense that could possibly be translated as "monad" but it's not in the other kokugos. I think we can safely ignore it. |

Comments: | If Weblio churns out a mass of entries from different sources, it is a good idea to quote the one you are referring to rather than putting in a single URL. This one is odd - that sense is not in any other JE AFAICT, nor in any of the kokugos I checked. 斎藤 can be a bit flakey at times, and I suspect this might be a back-formation from 単元論. I'd hesitate to add it based on just that source. Any other views? |
