Comments: | I am not seeking to change the above. I am wondering sbout "っこ" in the middle of the normal reading. You have various entries for "っこ" which are useful, but none quite explain the above usage, for example:- こ; っこ (suf) (1) (abbr) (See 慣れっこ, ぺちゃんこ .1) doing; in such a state; (2) (See 睨めっこ・1) doing together; contest; match; (3) (fam) (See 餡こ・1) familiarizing suffix (sometimes meaning "small") っ子 【っこ】 (suf) (col) (See 江戸っ子) someone with a liking or characteristic; a true representative of (place) こい; っこい (suf,adj-i) (after a noun or the stem of an -i adjective) rich in ...; high in ...; full of ...; very ...; quite ... っこない (exp) (after a verb's -masu base) no chance of (verb) I am wondering if your team can provide an entry so that when one is faced with "っこ" in the middle of an expression one can more readily conclude whether or not it is an insert for a purpose or whether one needs to seach more widely for a combination of ordinary usage. I am also wondering if the main head word above should have a cross-link with "落ちる" |

Comments: | Adding そら to other entries would be messy as it doesn't seem to apply to all senses and would lead to restrictions. The references are all over the place for それ, そら, etc. I'm inclined to leave it where it is. |

Comments: | Sorry for not making a better case. I get "take that" from Daijr それ [1] (感) 〔代名詞「それ」から〕 相手の注意を喚起したり指示したりするときに用いる語。そら。「―急げ」 but it might not be a good translation. THere is already a そら entry - maybe それ belongs as a reading there rather than as an additional meaning here? However, that entry also has a meaning that is equivalent to それは - maybe that should be split out from there and merged with そりゃ? i.e. as now, 3 entries, except それ (this entry), as-is それ、そら [int] "here!;there! そりゃ;そら [exp] that is |

9. | A* 2022-08-09 21:29:31 Robin Scott <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | Saito glosses 秋津島 as "(An archaic name for) Japan". Shinmeikai defines it as "「日本国」の古代の異称". Meikyo tags it as〔古〕. I think "arch" is appropriate. The "hist" tag indicates that the term refers to something that no longer exists. Only the "Yamato Province" sense of 秋津島 fits that description but I'd argue it's still archaic given that the usual name in contemporary Japanese is 大和国. I don't have a problem with using rK on this entry. Probably best to lead with the "Japan" sense. |

Comments: | If the absolute n-gram counts were low for all three forms, I would definitely agree that [rK] wouldn't apply. (Say, 40 counts for 秋津島, 30 counts for 秋津洲, and 0 counts for 蜻蛉洲). At that point, the margin of error is too great for the corpus data to be meaningful. But that's not the case here, and IMO it's not wise for us to be creating exceptions to rules / guidelines without very good reasons. Best to keep it simple. Are these senses really archaic, though? They are included in all of the more selective kokugos which usually don't carry as many archaic terms (shinmeikai, meikyo, oukoku, iwakoku). I would've thought that the "historical" tag would be a better fit. The kokugos explicitly state that あきづしま is an "old" reading, which I interpret to mean that あきつしま is "modern," meaning that the term still appears in modern contexts. |
