I note that GG5 only has 唐物/とうぶつ, which supports Rene's position. I'm quite comfortable with とうぶつ going first.
My IME (Canna dictionary) does the same, but really that is not an argument for one reading or the other for a specific lexeme like this one.
I see for 唐物屋 Daijirin has both とうぶつや and からものや with quite different meanings.

when I type からもの, my (standard windows) converter turns it
into 唐物 (as one word, pressing space changes both at once)
without any problems, but when I type とうぶつ that's not
recognized as a single word and I get two separate lines
under each kanji (i.e. pressing space changes only one kanji
) and 党物 etc.
Reading 唐 as から isn't that uncommon either (唐揚げ etc.),
so I don't think it's the case that everybody would
automatically assume it's read as とうふつ over からもの.

A rubbing (frottage) is a reproduction of the texture of a surface created by placing a piece of paper or similar material over the subject and then rubbing the paper with something to deposit marks, most commonly charcoal or pencil but also various forms of blotted and rolled ink, chalk, wax, and many other substances.[1]

  Comments:
Maybe [rare], certainly by comparison, but perfectly googlable. Still, maybe not readily comprehensible by an average Japanese person.

Reverso for xref is "rubbing" or "rubbed copy". This term is not on reverso.

Found this the other way around from 拓本, which lists this as a synonym/related at the end.

The sankoku defn. of this term, in turn, is just 拓本.

I don't think "print from stone" is a gloss. Experiences differ, but I'm sure we did this a bunch of times in elementary school, I don't think the concept should be overly foreign. Maybe an [expl] since "rubbing" is so ambiguous out of context. Thought about [art] to disambiguate (as wikipedia does), but this seems to exist historically as a more practical activity.

The difference seems a little subtle to me (江戸 is historical even though it still exists by a different name), but I think I see what you're getting at. I guess this term is maybe too colloquial or unofficial to count as historical.
9. A* 2022-08-09 21:29:31  Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
Saito glosses 秋津島 as "(An archaic name for) Japan". Shinmeikai defines it as "「日本国」の古代の異称". Meikyo tags it as〔古〕. I think "arch" is appropriate.
The "hist" tag indicates that the term refers to something that no longer exists. Only the "Yamato Province" sense of 秋津島 fits that description but I'd argue it's still archaic given that the usual name in contemporary Japanese is 大和国.
I don't have a problem with using rK on this entry.
Probably best to lead with the "Japan" sense.

If the absolute n-gram counts were low for all three forms, I would definitely agree that [rK] wouldn't apply. (Say, 40 counts for 秋津島, 30 counts for 秋津洲, and 0 counts for 蜻蛉洲). At that point, the margin of error is too great for the corpus data to be meaningful.

But that's not the case here, and IMO it's not wise for us to be creating exceptions to rules / guidelines without very good reasons. Best to keep it simple.

Are these senses really archaic, though? They are included in all of the more selective kokugos which usually don't carry as many archaic terms (shinmeikai, meikyo, oukoku, iwakoku). I would've thought that the "historical" tag would be a better fit. The kokugos explicitly state that あきづしま is an "old" reading, which I interpret to mean that あきつしま is "modern," meaning that the term still appears in modern contexts.
