Refs: | https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_population If I'm interpreting them correctly, the J-J definitions (daijr/s, koj, oukoku) say this is a deliberate falsehood (「虚偽の申告など…」, 「偽りの申告によって…」) and that the people truly do not exist (「実際には居住していない」). This sounds quite a bit different than the definition of "ghost population" on Wikipedia ("population that has been inferred through using statistical techniques"). To me, the kokugos make it sound like there is an intent to mislead. |

I can't be sure this entry was the basis for it but I saw his condition referred to as "showing no vital signs" in English-language media and I felt a pang of guilt as I wasn't really sure this was an entirely accurate description (after the 心肺停止 was first announced, he was flown to a hospital and had 30 or so liters of blood pumped into him, before they finally announced his death). I'm wondering what other editors think, should maybe sense 2 be reworked into a note on sense 1? [note="oft. used in media for a death which is yet to be declared by a medical professional"] |

Comments: | These meanings are all listed as archaisms, but I wonder if that's correct. ”いけん” is also used as a conversational form of いけない -- from what I can tell, used only when talking to one's social inferiors, and mostly by men. But it's more of a verb form than a word and applies to all verbs (e.g., できん for できない) so I don't know if it should appear as a meaning. On a related note, I came to this entry as I was trying to find a definition of せん, which it turns out is that conversational (superior, masculine) form of しない -- I'd not seen that before (私の名前など気にせんでいい - never mind what my name is). Again, though, I don't know if it merits its own entry because it's just a verb form (although one that is not included in the verb conjugation table for する). But from a user point of view, it would have been nice to find it in the JMDICT :-) Perhaps it is something that could be added to the verb conjugation table instead? |

Refs: | daij https://www.timeout.com/tokyo/nightlife/tokyo-cabaret-pubs Exorbitant prices and the fear of finding yourself in an abysmally seedy strip club by accident put many people off cabaret clubs. However, head to the right places and you’re in for a night of titillating adventure. In Japan, these venues are known as ‘show pubs’ and mix laughter-inducing acts with sultry dances. As opposed to burlesque clubs, show pubs are a more casual affair, offering food and drinks to accompany the performances. You can opt to have a meal in front of the stage or sip on a martini as you watch awe-inspiring shows late into the night. |
