Comments: | Marcus's comment from a fork: "Without the "of" it seems the verb is transitive, that the secret is the object rather than the subject. I think an overly elliptical style often makes entries harder to understand." I agree with Marcus. Our usual style (at least for the past few years) has been to include "of" for intransitive verbs/expressions. Sometimes it makes no real difference (as in "to be exposed") but often it does (as in "to leak out"), so for consistency's sake I think "of" should always been included. |

Comments: | Given the deliberately elliptical style that is common in dictionary entries, I don't think the addition of "of a", etc. is much help. "to be exposed (lie, improper behaviour, etc.)" and "to be exposed (of a lie, improper behaviour, etc.)" really mean the same thing. I'd always go for the shorter form. |

Comments: | Came across "絶賛勉強中". It seems the 絶賛 is just adding intensity here. Sense 1 doesn't help at all in understanding this example. |

Refs: | My previous edit to this entry didn't catch the 梨 versions of this word. These versions are in shinmeikai and sankoku, for example. So there are four kanji variations in this word. Two to the fourth power = 16 combinations. 〈倶/俱〉〈利/梨〉〈迦/伽〉羅紋〈紋/々〉 俱 and 倶 are really the same kanji (通用字体; similar to the 頬 and 頬 situation). All recently published dictionaries favor the former, but the n-gram counts favor the latter. I think we're all OK with hiding these additional forms (see entry 1905160 for example). Normally we don't hide 々 forms, but maybe we can make an exception here. That leaves us with 4 forms to display.
