Comments: | Considering this is [sl], by the numbers "livestream" now exceeds "live stream" online (perhaps 2x), and has dictionary support. Since this might legitimately come up in E->J searches, probably worth having multiple forms on this term in particular. As an actual slang suffix, the bare word "stream" seems most likely to be applicable. "streams" are practically live by definition, (barring "streaming of prerecorded content", which is more of an anomaly where these terms appear). "live (online) broadcast" might be better as an [expl]. 歌枠 have grown in popularity, and probably has 100,000+ examples online. We don't need to have the xref I guess, but it does make the term far more comprehensible if you're just encountering 枠 from an unrelated sense. It's a term likely of interest to young Japanese learners. On submission, noticed 歌枠 was used to create [6] back in 2021. As I found this term the exact same way, this seems like a good exemplar. |

Comments: | I don't think so, the chiebukuro link talks about confusing itameshi for ita(me)meshi. I'd like to see some actual evidence of itameshi being used with this meaning first. |

Refs: | https://detail.chiebukuro.yahoo.co.jp/qa/question_detail/q118298901 (from 2006) Q: “イタ飯”ってイタリア料理の事なんですか? チャーハン(炒飯)だと思ってました。 A: きっとまだお若いんですね。バブル全盛期にフランス料理より軽くておしゃれーと大流行した時の呼び名です。イタメシであって炒め飯ではないのです。 |
|
Comments: | I was mystified by your comments until I found the quoted chiebukuro Q/A. It seems it's confused with 炒め飯/いためめし. Not sure we should be adding it as a here with a "confused with" sense? Or perhaps a "いためし" irregular reading put on the 炒飯 entry? |
|
8. | A* 2022-06-05 17:12:46 Hendrik | |
Comments: | Not sure how to handle this in (add this to) JEDIC, but there is also a Japanese version of "itameshi" that is unrelated to Italy: 炒飯 (in Okinawa called "chaahan", from Chinese "chao3fan4"). A local NS informant tells me that many call it "yakimeshi" 焼飯, but I cannot vouch for the two terms having the same connotations (it is likely that there are regionally different ingredients and regionally different ways of making the end product that could lead to different terms being used). |

Comments: | Remove “read between the lines” gloss – that’s at best an inexact translation, and certainly shouldn’t be the first one. This expression is about reading a *situation*, the *atmosphere* (the feel), not inferring *meaning* of what is being *said* (as in “read between the lines”) 行間を読む is the equivalent phrase for “read between the lines” – it’s the literal equivalent and is used with the same sense. We don’t link similarly *meaning* terms, so I’m not linking it, though if it’s confusing enough perhaps it should be linked. |
