BTW, re the 2017 comment: `For うかがえる JMdict says "See: 伺う,..."', Actually JMdict never said that, it's a function in WWWJDIC that tries to point users towards possibly useful entries when they look up an inflected form. I've updated the file so that the うかが* batch now points to both 伺う and 窺う. |

Comments: | From the quoted references, it would appear 'to go' (or even 'to come') is a more apt translation than 'to visit'. In almost all examples in both sources, translating in to 'go' seems to make more sense. For example, in the former reference, the following example is given: 「...お決まりになりましたら、お伺いいたします。」Clearly the waitress in this example is saying 'Once you've decided your order, I'll come back.' rather than 'I'll visit you again.' In fact, these sources even liken 伺う to 参る (and 行く), which means 'come/go' (the only difference being 謙譲語I and 謙譲語II). |

Comments: | I'm not convinced there really is an "unauthorised" sense here. 野良アプリ refers to an app that isn't downloaded via an official app store, but to my knowledge, 野良 isn't used in other terms to mean "unauthorised". We have no reference saying that 野良 = "unauthorised". It's not mentioned on ニコニコ大百科's 野良 entry, which has the gaming sense we just added. Unless we can find other examples, I think the sense should be dropped. |

Comments: | I guess it's "only" the passive voice of 流す, and we could cover it by adding "to overwhelm" to sense 3 here. I do rather like GG5's entry for 流される and since it's quite common it may be best to add it as an entry here. I'll propose a new entry and close this. |

Comments: | kenkyuusha has an entry for 流される with "overwhelmed" as one of its meanings, one of the example sentences in there: "感情に流される be overwhelmed by ┏(an) emotion [(a) feeling];" Should that meaning be added to 流す or 流される should have its own entry for that meaning? |

Comments: | I used to need the tags on both forms to get the (P) in EDICT, but that's no longer the case. The "newsX" was basically a ranking based on a 20yo newspaper analysis. The "news2" ones didn't even generate a (P). No need to remove them, I guess. |

|
Comments: | Well, I've done it several times after getting an OK from Jim, so there will already be several entries where the kanji form doesn't have the same tags as the hiragana. I think having frequency tags on little used kanji forms makes things for users because the obvious implication is that the kanji is very common and worth prioritizing when the reality is, like here, that it's very sparsely used. |

Comments: | I don't recall seeing priority tags removed from borderline-rare kanji forms. In any case, this one doesn't seem to be borderline. There's already a [uk] tag to indicate that のぼり is more common. There are some technical app-dev reasons why I'd rather have the priority tags in both fields in this situation. It would be a different story if we were adding an [rK] tag to 幟. |

Refs: | その調子 117450 https://eitopi.com/sonotyoushi-eigo 人を励ます時の「その調子」という表現。みなさんは、この言葉を英語ではどのように言えば良いと思いますか? Keep it up! その調子! 上手く出来ていることに関して、「このままの感じで続けていこう」という気持ちを込めて使える英語フレーズです。 “keep up”で、「良い状態に保つ」という意味になります。 その表現に”it”を入れると、「それを上げた状態で保とう」となり、つまり「それを良い状態にしておこう」という表現が出来るんです。 そこから「その調子!」とか「そのままでいこう!」といった励ましのニュアンスで使われています。 |
