The "であるから、それにふさわしく" sense is our sense 1.
"contrary to expectations" doesn't work as a gloss for sense 2, and it's not really about "negatives" but rather unexpected results.

daijr has 3 senses, but only one aligns with ours. koj 1. nikk 2

could this 3 be translated as "fittingly; suitably"? or should it be "given ..., it is suitable that"
  Comments:
this is often used when explaining a pun, e.g.

here there's only one "..." to be "filled out" i.e. "given that ... it is only natural that ..." doesn't work here.

There is another meaning to this phrase. In the context I found it, neither "to be informed" nor "to have thorough knowledge" fits. But the example sentence for this entry -- 謝るぐらいの礼儀は彼女も心得ていた -- is more like what I was looking for. It's translated there as "to have the decency to do", but I think it could also be something like "to be wise enough to do" or "to realize it's the right thing to do".

[I'm sorry if you get this suggestion twice. My Internet connection dropped partway through my first submission.]

Apart from not being a meaningful English gloss, it's not well supported by visible usage. Most of the n-gram matches and WWW hits are for it being in
I'll leave it for a while, but unless there's more support I'll drop this one.

Aligning. Should be arch.

黄昏る has been added as [io] to the 黄昏れる entry. As this entry is for the 二段 form and is in the kokugos as such, it's probably a good idea to keep it here.
3. A* 2022-05-29 23:58:24  Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
As I noted in the comments on 黄昏れる, たそがれる is very often written as 黄昏る. In light of that fact, I don't think this entry is needed.

daijr, koj, and nikk only redirect the reader to their entries for 黄昏れる.
daijs redirects and also notes that this is 文語形.

The third sense in our entry for 黄昏れる isn't present in any of the refs,
so I think it's okay to omit it here.

We've discussed having/not having lsrc tags on similar entries (cities etc.) before, but I think it's useful to tag even obvious ones with lsrc tags. It's not just about providing information to users but also about making a searchable database that can be used for many purposes.
