Refs: | Lots of questions about this on chiebukuro as well. https://detail.chiebukuro.yahoo.co.jp/qa/question_detail/q12189583437 Apparently たぐ.い was added to the 常用 list in 2010. Before that, 類 only had one reading on the list (音: るい). This chiebukoro user saw 類い written in a recently-published novel written by a famous author. Then after using 類い at work, they were told by a work colleague that 類い is incorrect because it's written as 類 in kojien. The impression that I get is that 類 is the most commonly used form, but the government is trying to promote 類い in official writing due to the ambiguity with るい. It seems this style hasn't yet entirely caught on, however. |
