Comments: | I think シリコンゴム is so widespread that it's considered a valid (though technically incorrect) alternative form. The first link above is a manufacturer of silicone rubber and it uses the シリコンゴム spelling. I don't think シリコンゴム needs an ik tag but シリコーンゴム should probably lead. I'd be in favour of a "non-standard" note on the "silicone" sense of シリコン. |

|
9. | A* 2022-04-27 23:56:08 Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
Comments: | I agree that "GW" shouldn't be a gloss. It's a clunky way of handling the issue. See comments on 2718850 for discussion about abbr on acronyms/initialisms. Although I said an argument could be made for including it on Japanese-made acronyms, I'm not sure it's a good argument. For the sake of consistency it's probably best not to use abbr for any acronyms/initialisms. I note that daijr and daijs don't define "GW" as "ゴールデンウイークの略". |
|
8. | A* 2022-04-27 08:31:27 Marcus Richert <...address hidden...>
Comments: | I think we've decided that Japanese-made initialisms should get the abbr tag. (though my actual preference would be to tag all initialisms as abbr) Having "GW" as a gloss is useful for look-ups, but so would be including "KY" in the KY entry, because the exact same issue Jim described will come up there. ultimately it's a problem that I really don't think we should be handling on the gloss level. |

Comments: | There is a heap of name entries of the XXX市南区 (and other YY区 patterns), e.g. 札幌市南区, 京都市南区, etc. I'm planning to just have the ward name and remove the longer compositional names. Before starting I'd like to have the basic glossing format of YY区 names agreed. I'm suggesting the above for names that occur in multiple cities, and for less common ones use something like "清田区 .... Kiyota Ward (Sapporo)". Does that seem OK? |
