Comments: | I don't think any of these senses are suffixes. Although it's in GG5, I think the "hiding place" sense is archaic/obsolete. It's not in the other JEs or meikyo/shinmeikai (or even daijs). Daijr's example is from the Meiji era. I don't think the "underbelly" sense is needed. The kokugos describe it as a "江戸後期の流行語". |

9. | A 2023-02-20 03:55:47 Jim Breen <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | I basically agree with this. I need to fix up the sentence indices a bit, but that needs to wait as some of the sentences using 旨く are being amended. |

|
Comments: | I think 旨く行く should be visible as 旨く is arguably the more "correct" kanji form. Most of the kokugos only have 上手い as a "多く「上手い」「巧い」と書く" note on the "skilful" sense of うまい. Given that this is usually written in kana, I wonder if we can apply the sK tag a bit more liberally. Do we really need 上手くいく, うまく行く and 上手く行く all to be visible? Even the most common of these is only used ~16% of the time. I'd be happy just to have the full-kanji form, even though it's the least common of the three. This would be a departure from how we've been doing things up till now but I think it's a neater approach. |

Comments: | The question here is whether Japanese people use パウンド for the # symbol. The English Wikipedia entry is quite irrelevant. I don't have access to 「モノのなまえ辞典」 and have no view of its level of authority, but I'd need evidence before accepting this new sense. It's not in any of the JE or JJ dictionaries I checked. Also, it seems シャープ is used for the # hashtag, etc. symbol. I don't see a case for editing that entry. |

Comments: | As per the reference and: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharp_(music)#:~:text=The sharp symbol (♯) resembles, avoid obscuring the staff lines., there is a distinction between the musical sharp sign (♯) and the hashtag sign (#). The correct term for the (non-musical) hashtag sign is パウンド. Therefore, the entry for シャープ should also be edited to be clarified. |
