Small update to avoid some confusion. At first glance, the term "hand-to-hand combat" makes it seem like 白兵戦 is only done with physical "hands", as though weapons are excluded, which is definitely not the case according to definitions in wikipedia, daijisen, etc. I thought the translation was a mistake, but on further inspection, I now realize hand-to-hand combat actually can involve weapons.
