Comments: | Well, the point you are making is plainly wrong, "-chan" is clearly among the suffixes that "yobisute" indicates you're not using. Daijisen says "「君」「様」「さん」_など_の敬称" (my emphasis). Koj mentions 殿・様・さん・君. That doesn't mean we need to include "殿" or さま here, it's not an exhaustive list. The wording you're suggesting doesn't make sense to me either, "even '-sama'" seems to imply that "-sama" would be the least polite of the suffixes listed, when it's quite the opposite. |

Refs: | https://www.weblio.jp/content/呼び捨て Please refer to 小学館大辞泉. It says "《「よびずて」とも》人の名を「君」「様」「さん」などの敬称をつけずに呼ぶこと。" So addressing someone "-chan" or not is not even what "yobisute" is talking about. "-chan" is totally out of concern of this context. Only whether addressing someone by "-san", "-sama", "-kun" OR NOT is the context of "yobisute". That is my point. |

Comments: | Robin's suggestion has been there for a while and no one has responded. I think it's a good way to go. The "koyomi" romaji version seems to get little or no use - most WWW hits are for a brand of shochu. Comments: | "steamroller voting" is an extremely rare collocation in English (google). Hard to imagine where this would be useful. images that come back in a news search seem to suggest that [politics] is appropriate. Never heard "steamrollering", but oxford confirms a North American often wouldn't. "steamrolled the measure" 2 google hits; "The GOP dominated Senate steamrolled the measure through by a 22-11 vote " "steamrollered the measure" 5 google hits House of Commons Hansard Debates: "steamrollered the measure through the House before the general election" "railroaded the measure" 27 hits Googits are of course inaccurate, so who's to say. I could scroll for a while on all of these though: "steamrolled the bill" 4400 "steamrollered the bill" 2500 "railroaded the bill" 6500 eijiro prefers "railroaded" for all its verbal glosses (about 7 of them). |

Comments: | Thank you Robin, those comments explained a lot and I will keep that all in mind. I've only just now seen usage [note] tags here and there, and *just now* realized the "Sense note" field in "advanced search" lets you find existing examples. The [note] is a better approach than what I did. And sorry, yes, I was as bit uncomfortable calling that gloss [lit]. I will not do that in the future. I see the mailing list is posted online, I'll make an effort to read through things and catch up, especially on NG. |

Comments: | We use adj-i in cases like this because we want sites/apps to be able to handle inflected forms. Separating inflectional information from PoS tags is something that's been proposed for JMdict: NG. See the link above. I think ellipses used in conjunction with a note help to show how this expression is used. Transitivity tags are not used on expressions. 手がつかない would need to be a separate entry. A lit gloss should be a word-for-word translation. It wouldn't be helpful here. |

Comments: | Small change, I think "focus" is a better gloss for the meaning I've suggested. "unable to focus on work" vs. "unable to concentrate on work", this is mostly stylistic, I think, but google counts seem to roughly support this intuition. If this were treated as [vi], it really should be "to be unable to focus". And perhaps [lit] (said of something) to not hold one's attention If this is merely [adj-i], how do we get from here to 仕事が手につきません... ====== sankoku and daijs both use 集中 (concentration (on a task); focusing one's attention) nikk uses 身が入らない (can't: to give one's everything; to make one's best effort; to be enthused; to put your back into it) |

I'm always partial to including things I've actually heard used in real life and I tend to weigh such instances much heavier than the online presence of a word, but otoh this is the kind of word you would expect to explode in usage online right now even if it had somehow been more common offline than online. |

Comments: | You only get 337 hits for 病院 if you click to the last page of results. This is the number of results that Google has retrieved (and it's always a small number). It's true that Google hits aren't a very reliable metric but a low hit count of the first page is usually a good indication that the queried term is uncommon. Japanese is absolutely full of puns. I don't think they belong in jmdict unless they're especially common or in a major ref. I don't think this one is anywhere near common enough. |

Comments: | Yes, the Jp Wiktionary entry for 啤酒 doesn't even have a kana reading. The Kotobank site seems to be the only one with ひしゅ. I'll move that headword. |

Comments: | This should prob be merged with 青島ビール based on the google results. The kotobank reading is likely auto-generated and not correct. |

Comments: | (a) this is not in JMdict - it's in a parallel names dictionary (JMnedict) which has nearly 800,000 names including many products. (b) all 4 kanji are in the JIS standards. (c) 青島啤酒 appears in quite a lot of Japanese WWW pages. It's reasonable to provide some support for people wanting to look it up, as with the more common 青島ビール, which is a Japanese name for the same product. |

Refs: | This is totally a Chinese brand or word. It is not even Japanese Kanji. You cannot find it from any regular Japanese dictionary. The OP refers to https://kotobank.jp/word/青島啤酒-1369102 and the source is from 世界大百科事典 which is an encyclopedia. Does JMDict now include everything from encyclopedia? If so, you should not call JMDict a dictionary. |
