Comments: | I'm inclined to agree that this sort of search key is best dealt with by the client software. |

Comments: | There's a tool here that attempts to decipher censored text such as う○こ: http://fuseji.net/ Applications such as jisho.org also support regex wildcard searches. For example a search for "う?こ" will bring up all possible matches. IMO, handling these sorts of forms seems outside the scope of jmdict's capabilities. |

Comments: | I don't think "col" is needed. Children's language is colloquial by default. I don't think う○こ should be included. All sorts of words can be censored using ○; I think it's unlikely that users would look up them. Also, ○ isn't kana. It would need to go in the kanji field but having an sK form as the only kanji form on an entry is problematic. |

Comments: | I don't think either x-ref is particularly helpful. As Stephen points out, the "ノート = notebook" connection doesn't need to be explained. We even have "notebook" as a gloss. And we don't typically include an x-ref to an abbreviated form unless it's more common than the full form. I don't think that's the case here. |

Comments: | Oops, I neglected to check the history. I suppose the sense cross-references serve two different purposes: one explains the etymology and the other explains that it may be abbreviated. I didn't think the former would be necessary since "notebook computer" is common in English as well, and probably nobody would think "note" refers to musical notes. But I may just be biased. |

Comments: | I know it's our usual practice to omit nakaguro from the readings of acronyms, but many references, e.g. GG5, include them(*). The online Kenkyusha server will find the entries with both forms despite only displaying one of them. With the availability now of the [sk] tag, I'm wondering if it's time to review our approach and include the nakaguro version(s) as search-only forms. (*) the kokugos tend to use a hyphen, e.g. シー‐ピー‐ユー, in the displayed form. |
