に is not a particle here. It's part of the -masu stem of 死ぬ.

Our style for years has been to tag terms with 助詞 embedded in them like this "exp". Do we really want to change that? It impacts thousands of entries.

GG5 uses the 【地質】 field tag for this term, which is why I chose [geol].  It uses 【地理】 for geographical terms. I appreciate it can be a fine distinction.
