Refs: | kanjigen: 【圕】 {名詞}図書館。 「囗+書」の会意文字。「図書館」を一字であらわしたもので、tú shū guǎnと読む。中国で用いられる。 |
|
Comments: | Confirms the meaning, and to some extent the reading. Perhaps it should be an "also written as". |
|
2. | A* 2013-01-24 22:56:01 Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
Comments: | You wouldn't find 圕 in those references because their online editions have restricted kanji sets. The Japanese Wikipedia entry for 図書館 used to begin: "図書館(としょかん、古くに圕とも)とは、...". at some stage the "古くに圕とも" was deleted (I haven't hunted through the edits to find out when or why). 圕 is a JIS212 kanji that was kept on in JIS213. In the JIS dictionary, there is the comment "圕は図書館の合字". We have plenty of entries with odd and obscure kanji included, appropriately flagged, and I think having 圕 as an "oK" was really quite appropriate. It should be in the entry somewhere. |

Comments: | It would be a bold move. I'm not sure about putting solo kana in the "Kanji" purely on the grounds that their pronunciation is irregular. Two other comments: - if we take this path the entry needs to be split into 3 as it would be breaking the 2/3 rule; - to be consistent, the は entry should be converted to "は [わ} (prt) ......" I'm inclined to leave it alone. |

Comments: | "It looked like it was a wildcard in hanafuda and a storm card in something else.." We usually do a short disambiguation within brackets just for the first gloss even when there's several glosses. If it looked as if it was a wild card in hanafuda and a storm card in something else to you, I think it must have been the additional brackets on the 3rd gloss that was throwing you off. I don't think that information belongs in a note, unless we decide that's how we want to format all of our entries. And again, info on the English gloss isn't what we'd usually put inside brackets. I think it'd be good if we could come up with another way of relaying this type of information other than stuffing it inside brackets, because just stuffing all types of things inside them makes for confusion. |
|
11. | A* 2020-08-05 07:48:51 Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
Comments: | If sense 1 is always hanafuda I think we have to say so. It looked like it was a wildcard in hanafuda and a storm card in something else.. Since "gaji" is not a regular English term, some extra information is realy needed. |
