Refs: | https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interjection "In linguistics, an interjection is a word or expression that occurs as an utterance on its own and expresses a spontaneous feeling or reaction.[1][2] The category is quite heterogeneous, and includes such things as exclamations (ouch!, wow!), curses (damn!), greetings (hey, bye), response particles (okay, oh!, m-hm, huh?), and hesitation markers (uh, er, um). " It might be a "kandoushi" in Japanese but then that would only prove that a "kandoushi" isn't the exact equivalent of "interjection" in English. |

A more literal translation of what's in daijr/jitsuyo could be something like "obtaining quotes from several companies and comparing them" |

|
3. | A* 2018-11-23 02:38:08 Marcus Richert <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | Yes, entries like this one are tricky because I agree we should be careful not to screw things up for people using jmdict for text glossing (with tools like rikai-chan, etc.) Sense 2 is tricky because really the "you" should be within the brackets too, probably (the subject could be a third person) I'm not sure sense 1 is an "abbreviation" of sense 2, really. I mean you could argue that it's "何だと言った?" but I'm not convinced. If there was an eloquent way to phrase a note on sense 1 to explain the phrase only has this meaning when it's not used as a sub clause (not sure of the terminology here)... |
