アンバサダー
1. [n]
▶ ambassador

History:

  Comments:
What I meant was that it's just an example of the breadth of usage of the term, and not grounds for regarding it as quite another sense.

"Interesting, but to me it doesn't assign that meaning to the word アンバサダー."
I don't understand what makes you say that?
Also in the Friday Digital article linked, that meaning is obviously assigned to アンバサダー.

Interesting, but to me it doesn't assign that meaning to the word アンバサダー.
I note that Kenkyusha's EJ doesn't use アンバサダー at all in its entry for "brand ambassador".
I'll leave this open; someone else might like to comment. I should propose entries for キャンペーンキャラクター and 広報大使 (we have イメージキャラクター already.)

NN = New Nelson. I added a list of the JE kanwas recently.
As I commented: "Note that these are included as examples of the use of kanji and are not necessarily common or topical. Many of the examples in the Nelson dictionaries are quite old and are not really suitable as dictionary entries." I don't mind a Nelson-derived form going into an entry with an "oK" tag, but they shouldn't be the whole basis of an entry.

I think it's fine to use rK on uk entries (we've done it plenty of times already). But GG5 and prog have 胼胝 for たこ, and my IME suggests 胼胝 for たこ. I also suspect that people who are familiar with the kanji are more likely to read it as たこ than as べんち/へんち. I think it's best not to tag 胼胝 as rK.
11. A* 2023-07-04 21:56:41  Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
We've tended to use rK to flag rare kanji forms which could be hidden with an sK but since they appear in kokugos should be kept visible. I doubt they're really needed for uk entries. Perhaps this needs to be discussed in the issues GitHub forum.

On balance I don't think we need a second sense. If Daijisen for instance had "また、その人" (instead of just ending with -状態) then sure, I'd assume they had a good case for it, but I'm not really convinced by the examples provided alone (esp. as most of them could be read as 状態 rather than 人) that this is more than just typical Japanese "noun fluidity".

  Comments:
For some examples, search "あの老害", or the combination... "老害" "免許" (lots of "take their licenses away" commentaries).

Apparently, this can be used as an identifier for specific elders, and in this context is derogatory.

Seems like it can be an intensifier for other insults, such as 老害クソババア. Even found a "老害クソ頑固ジジイ". I think this warrants a second sense for the [derog] application. Marked [adj-f] as it seems to grammatically work like "fucking" in English. "老害社長"、老害部長, have plenty of matches, for example.

I don't necessarily mean "senile" in the literal sense, though it seems this nuance does apply to 老害. But as [sl][derog], "senile" is a fairly effective term in English for insulting the elderly. あの老害 = "that senile old man" seems about right from what I have seen... ("senile old person" would be a definition, not a gloss, as this is no longer an insult).

I see looking back that GG5 specifically gives "(senile)". It seems the implication is probably there, even if impolite.

Many kokugos have dedicated entries for the 椀飯 form. Probably shouldn't be hidden.
I think we should split it into a separate [rare] entry and link it here.
The おお/おう merger was a little uncomfortable in the first place.

If we could come up with more than one English gloss, I feel "bloop" would be fine. But alone, I agree it's a little weird, it would seem
like we're saying it's a better translation than it really is.
How's just "nurupo"? We can come back and remove the gloss once Jmdict 2.0 is functional

As we've been discussing the issues (see https://github.com/JMdictProject/JMdictIssues/issues/37), the kokugos often mark terms as nouns more for historical reasons than based on modern usage.
We need to establish a threshold to justify "n" tags for 形容動詞, but probably a 1:10 ratio of が/を usage cf な/の usage gets it over the line. As ever, the glosses should match the leading POS tag.
