Comments: | Let's drop that note; it's behaving like any other 形容動詞. Definitely not a noun. Re Robin's "Despite what the kokugos say, I don't think any of these senses are nouns", I quite agree. Many 形容動詞 get [名] tags in the kokugos despite them demonstrably only being used as adjectives in modern Japanese. I think this is due to them conforming to "classical" grammatical concepts. We tend to tag them as "adj-na,n", I would be quite happy to cull the "n" where appropriate. I'll raise an issue on this. |

Comments: | We're not very consistent when it comes to notes like this. But on 20 entries we have a note that says "oft. adverbially as ..." (or something similar). I prefer this to just "as ..." However, I'm not sure the note is even needed. Looking at the kokugo definitions and JE examples, I think these are the only glosses needed on sense 3. Despite what the kokugos say, I don't think any of these senses are nouns. Meikyo just has 形動/副. |

Comments: | What opencooper was saying is that "isekai" in English doesn't refer to the actual "other world" as much as it refers to the genre of works that take place in them. I don't think adding "(genre)" is helpful because I don't think it's clear that it should be read as "this English gloss mainly applies to the genre dealing with works taking place in another world" but will instead be interpreted as "異世界 refers to a genre". I'm sure opencooper is correct but I'm assuming "isekai" can have both meanings in English i.e. 1) genre dealing w 異世界, 2) 異世界, and since it's at the bottom of the list, I think this entry is probably fine as-is. |

Comments: | I feel that Mafia and Werewolf are two different, if almost identical games. I don't think that anybody playing the game with werewolf-based roles refers to that game as "Mafia", nor that anybody playing it with mafia-based roles refers to that game as "Werewolf." Also in my (highly anecdotal) experience, Werewolf is the more popular version - though I was first introduced to it as "Mafia" some 20 years ago, I've only come across it as "Werewolf" after that. I agree it's not a single product but more akin to charades. There's a lot of boxed versions of the game with a sea of different names (人狼 SUPER DX from Gentosha, ワンナイト人狼 by a smaller company, コンプレックス人狼 by 株式会社人間, 究極の人狼デラックス by Bezier Games) but all you really need to play the basic version is pen and paper. |

Comments: | I don't think it's the sort of thing that belongs in the names dictionary. It's an activity (like charades). It's not played with any equipment. According to jwiki, it's based on "汝は人狼なりや?" (The Werewolves of Millers Hollow), which *is* a product. |
|
3. | A* 2021-09-04 23:29:18 Jim Breen <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | 人狼 is a JMdict entry (2792560). The question really is whether products, games, etc. which are named after things in the main dictionary go here or become a sense there, or both. Do we need to establish a policy? |
