Alternatively, we could drop the wasei tag; there are plenty of examples of "last boss" online. Comments: | Sorry, I forgot to respond to this. I don't think this belongs in the names dictionary (or the main dictionary). It's not the name of a specific work but rather Bach's made-up word for "Fugue". Also, for a katakana-ized word, 700 hits isn't much at all. |

Comments: | That's a pretty significant commitment, Nicolas, to keep all typhoon entries continually updated. Remember that JMDict has been around for 30 years and might very well be around for 30 more, if not more still. I think this is the kind of thing that's more suited to other kinds of databases, like Wikipedia. |

Comments: | Regarding your second point, I wouldn't mind adding the other 台風第NN号 entries and keep them updated, if there's consensus to keep this. I don't see how it's obvious, though. |

Comments: | A few comments: (a) it's not a "named entity" as such; it's a nomenclature system used in Japan for typhoons. A bit like "5th District Court" or "7th Congressional District". (b) I can see it's probably useful to record it somewhere, but not here. I can't see it really fitting into the main dictionary unless we were to put in the full range of 台風第NN号. After all, it's a bit obvious, especially its full form such as 平成5年台風第13号. |

Comments: | I think specifying it's a typhoon or cyclone name is making it messier than it has to be. I think it's better to just offer the correct katakana for the name without further details. People are unlikely to come across this/try and look it up without realizing what it's about from the context it appears in. (I saw this as "台風第x号(チャンスー)..." in a news article, for example) |
|
4. | A* 2021-09-18 00:45:05 Jim Breen <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | AFAICT チャンスー is only used for naming tropical cyclones. It could be switched back to the generic "unclass" and the note expanded to "used to name tropical cyclones", but isn't that making a mess of something that's fairly clear? |
