Umbonium costatum is the translation in the 新和英大辞典。
  Comments:
This shell habitat is mainly around Japan and the shell is well reported in Japanese literature due to its resemblance with abacus' stones. The present translation "periwinkle" refers to Littorina littorea which is a European shell
of different shape, different color and different family.
In addition "periwinkle" without any mention could also refer to the flower Vinca major or Vinca minor and the associated color, and this has absolutely no relationship to Umbonium costatum and 細螺 きさご;きしゃご

In addition, there is an old Japanese reading of 細螺 which is しただに. I am not sure about the dictionary's policy as to old Japanese readings, so I leave it to the editing person.

Wikip: Magical girl (Japanese: 魔法少女, Hepburn: mahō shōjo) is a subgenre of Japanese fantasy media (including anime, manga, light novels, and live-action media) centered around young girls who possess magical abilities, which they typically use through an ideal alter ego into which they can transform.

I didn't realize it was a genre either, my bad. Maybe "(in anime, manga, etc.)" is better than stating specifically that it's "a sub-genre"? It
seems to me it can refer both to the girl herself and the genre. (if not, the other 2 senses should probably not be in there, as I assume they
are not recognized names for the genre)

I just want to comment that "magical girl" should probably be the first gloss here. It is by far and easily the default sense as the word is used in in contemporary japanese. It's an entire codified archetype, not a "stock character"; and "magical girl" is the established and proper english term for referring to the same archetype.

In fact, I might go as far as to say that "young witch" should be a second, separate gloss (i.e. behind a [2]). Mahou shoujo are associated with witches (see: madoka magica, etc), but that association is auxiliary to the mahou shoujo archetype itself.

Not sure the best way to word this. Google ペンタブ 手ブレ補正 for examples of this usage. It probably also applies to mouse and finger input systems.

The usage patterns for the two definitions seem slightly different and there isn't really a direct bridge between them, so I'm hesitant to merge them into a single "stabilization" definition (which would also be vague and misleading).

It miiiight be helpful to add a second definition to 手ブレ too*, but it's probably not necessary, as using this definition for it on its own is a lot less common than this compound. Rather than adding a second definition to 手ブレ it might be a good idea to make 手ブレ's definition more broad instead.

* see phrasing like 「手ブレ補正とは、>>手ぶれ<<による細かな線の揺れを自動的に軽減してくれる機能。」 as seen in clip studio paint's documentation (chevrons mine)

When comparing Hex-IDs not matching exactly with so called "vivid crimson" but visually a close fit.

Only 7 pages of Google results. Wikipedia article is a translation of the English version. Not in any other refs. I don't think this is needed.

Hmmm. Zero n-grams, and not a lot of hits apart from Wiki-related.

1. [n] [arch]
▶ Umbonium costatum (species of sea snail)

History:
4. A 2021-08-08 01:58:17  Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
I wasn't sure it was really "archaic". Sometimes an abandoned name may only be a few years in the past.
I'll try and stick to selecting surface form for xrefs - I tend to default to sequence numbers.
3. A* 2021-08-07 22:30:32  Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
  Comments:
Any reason we can't tag this as archaic?
Also, can we make sure to create x-refs using the desired surface form as opposed to the sequence number (i.e. [see=キサゴ] instead of [see=1663600])? That way, obscure kanji forms aren't carried over.
