[adj-na]
▶ epoch-making ▶ pivotal |
5. | A 2021-07-24 06:09:17 Jim Breen <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | Yes, エポックメイキング is probably not quite aligned with the English source, and "pivotal" is probably a good gloss. |

|
Comments: | The context where I saw this (should have posted it, sorry) was the now infamous 1995 interview with Cornelius (Keigo Oyamada) about bullying, see above. I thought Oyamada's use of "epoch-making" signified the word can be used in a quite different way from how it's used in Englishand I read it as just meaning "extraordinary." Looking at it now, I guess it could be read more literally, that there was a "before ●● and after ●●"? |

Comments: | I sat on this proposed edit for a while. No references or other support is provided, but it basically chops 8 senses down to 5. I see GG5 has 6 senses for this and Dair/s have 7 each. I think the best thing is simply to reject it. The entry possibly could do with some tweaking but as usual, there needs to be a case made. |

Comments: | Already in enamdict: 桑港 (そうこう) (p) San Francisco I'd be happy to have it there alone, but I see we allow all those quaint old kanji forms for ニューヨーク. I guess I'd vote to keep it, but it's rather odd. |
