Refs: | I think Japanese shortcakes are still shortcakes, just that they replace one ingredient with another. enwiki for example: "Strawberry shortcake is a widely known dessert made with shortcake. Sliced strawberries are mixed with sugar and allowed to sit an hour or so, until the strawberries have surrendered a great deal of their juices (macerated). The shortcakes are split and the bottoms are covered with a layer of strawberries, juice, and whipped cream, typically flavored with sugar and vanilla. The top is replaced, and more strawberries and whipped cream are added onto the top. Some convenience versions of shortcake are not made with a shortcake (i.e. biscuit) at all, but instead use a base of sponge cake or sometimes a corn muffin. Japanese-style strawberry shortcakes use a sponge cake base, and are a popular Christmas treat in Japan." I think it's weird to treat it as if the Japanese version is not a shortcake at all considering google image results for [ショートケー キ] and [shortcake -japanese] are so similar. And a "proper" US/UK strawberry shortcake would still be referred to as a ショートケーキ in Japanese, surely. |

Comments: | Added a couple of senses. GG5 has "〔羅針儀の〕 a course; a point" but I'm not seeing it in the other refs and I can't find any support for it online. I suggest dropping it. When talking about stocks, "points" does not mean "percentage points". I've created a new sense for this meaning. Although most of the Tanaka sentences are about stock market indexes, I don't think this sense is particularly common. And it doesn't appear to be used for Japanese stock indexes. |

6. | A 2021-07-17 11:55:45 Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
Comments: | OK. Yes, Google counts are hopeless, as I've been told by people there, but the relative frequency of the unique snippets can give you a vague idea of the actual quantity. |
|
5. | A* 2021-07-17 11:22:15 Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
Comments: | Should we include some extra detail to indicate that it's not a general term? By the way, there's no way to know the true number of hits on Google. Clicking to the last page of results always gives you a small number. |

Comments: | It was formed in 2018 so it won't show up in the n-grams. It gets quite a few hits online. Still, I'm not sure it's worth adding. I wouldn't object if it's rejected. I've approved those 非化石 submissions. |

▶ Non-Fossil Fuel Certificate |
2. | A 2021-07-16 23:32:33 Jim Breen <...address hidden...>
Refs: | https://www.lexology.com/library/detail.aspx?g=134d14be-0937-43c2-949d-27b9fb6118da - "A Non-Fossil Fuel Certificate was introduced in 2018. The Certificate, which embodies the zero-emission value created by a renewable project under the FIT programme, is issued by a governmental agency and sold to electricity retailers at auction. The scope of electricity generators eligible to receive the Non-Fossil Fuel Certificate has been expanded since November 2019 to cover the 'post-FIT' non-fossil fuel power generation, and was also expanded in April 2020 to cover non-fossil fuel power generation outside of the FIT programme. As such, the industry landscape surrounding the Non-Fossil Fuel Certificate may change in the future." |
