Comments: | OK. I guess I just feel that "triumphant return" is a poor translation of the text where I encountered it. "triumphant", "in triumph" are very positive words, but I got the impression "凱旋" was more of a statement of fact in that passage, i.e. 〇 "It was after the war, when our troops came back." × "It was after the war, at the time of our troops triumphant return." |

Comments: | I still feel it's unnecessary as "triumphant return" works for both meanings. Sense 2 just looks like sense 1 in more words. (And I don't think it's necessary to indicate that "triumphant return" doesn't specifically refer to war.) |

Comments: | Counterargument: The etymology/morphology, while not strictly necessary, serves as supplementary information that tells the reader not only what something is or does (a task of the definition and/or translation) but how also it comes to do so. Without it, ば seems to come out of nowhere, and though the cross-reference to は is likely sufficient for one to deduce what is happening, they would still need to look elsewhere for confirmation whereas we could simply leave 1 extra line of text here and save them of the task, especially if the reader is not yet particularly proficient and struggles to find a source. Should these reasons still be insufficient, I rest my case. |

Comments: | I don't think we'll get a working entry out of this. It's いい (most senses) plus な in various forms, and the actual meaning depends totally on context, intonation, body language, etc. The original eikaiwa reference is probably correct with the "jealous" meaning, but it also means so many other things it's quite wrong to have an entry with that alone. We'd need about 10 senses to cover all the possible meanings in all situations. I'm deleting this (to shorten the queue) and I'll reopen it to see if anyone else wants to continue the discussion or come up with a solution. |
|
7. | A* 2021-06-15 04:07:49 Nicolas Maia
Comments: | I think removing the nuance of jealousy severely limits the usefulness of this entry. I don't think it's a good idea. |
|
6. | A* 2021-06-15 00:20:36 Robin Scott <...address hidden...>
Comments: | I don't think we can translate a short and simple expression like いいな as "I'm jealous" or "you're so lucky". It's what's implied in certain contexts but it's no different from "wow" or "nice" in that respect. |

The origin of the name “Spice Curry” is unknown as most curries have used spices, however, the common understanding is that curries in Osaka put more emphasis on the aromatic elements of the curry rather than the soup stock or the ingredients they put in. Another big characteristic of the Osaka Spice Curry is that its presentation is heavily inspired by Asian plates rather than a European “roux-based” curry. |

Comments: | I don't think this is needed. It's a really uncommon example of まくる used as a suffix. Also, それる only has two senses; it shouldn't be difficult to deduce the meaning. |

Comments: | Seems to be correct. These 複合動詞 are often not in references as they are easily made up on-the-run. I don't mind including them, especially one like this which uses the less common senses of the component verbs. |
