Comments: | I don't think "linked form; bound ending" are actually wrong; it's more that they are trying to give short general translations without describing in detail what actually happens with a 係り結び. I think GG5 would have been better including a slightly longer explanation as well, but I guess for most dictionary users it's a minor and arcane term. |

Refs: | https://www.academia.edu/3228978/Non_movement_and_kakari_musubi_in_Old_ Japanese kakari-musubi is a syntactic pattern in which a so-called kakari- particle triggers a particular form of the main-clause predicate of a sentence. https://www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/gengo1939/2000/118/2000_118_81/_pd f/-char/en Kakari musubi is a set of syntactic constructions in which so-called kakari particles, inserted sentence-medially, link to a non-conclusive |
|
Comments: | 係り結び refers to a grammatical phenomenon or rule, as the kokugos imply, so "linked form; bound ending" is not accurate. For example, the 未然形 ending -a is also bound, but we do not call it 係り結び. |

Comments: | The original was rather inadequate, and your proposed correction is welcome. I like to lead with shorter glosses, and I think this succinct explanation gets to the point. With "verb agreement" there's no need to say conjugation specifically. |

Comments: | I looked some more into it, 小葉 has "small leaf" meaning on daijisen/daijiten/daijirin, so that should also be relevant I think (although currently missing on JMDict) Also in the first reference link above from wikipedia they are used with 系: 日本では小葉系と大葉系と中葉系(大実の成る系統はアッスーと名付けられている)に分類され流通している。 From the second link: 一般的には葉と言えば「大葉(en:megaphylls)」であり and 大葉(いわゆる「葉」)の葉脈の枝分かれパターンは、2分岐が網目状になったものが起源である可能性がある。 So it seems to be more about the fact that 大葉(Megaphylls) have a complex network of veins, as it explains in the third link So the j-j dictionary entries might be not up to date on this |

Comments: | I'll add that to the 締める entry, As for remerging, i.e. undoing the 2012 split, I feel we need to be on much stronger ground to do that. The old merged entry was a mess of restrictions. For now I'd rather keep it as-is with xrefs. |

Comments: | I meant that "to kill" should prob. be added as a sense to 締める rather than 〆る. but yes, also that the 2 should probably be merged. I'm not convinced 〆る can't be used for several other if not all of the senses in 締める. eg. sense 6 of 締める written as 〆る here: https://detail.chiebukuro.yahoo.co.jp/qa/quest ion_detail/q1146903691 (I'm on my phone so I haven't looked into this all that deeply) |
|
7. | A* 2021-03-29 22:33:11 Jim Breen <...address hidden...> | |
Comments: | Merging would be messy as they seem to only overlap by one or two senses. BTW, which sense of 締める is "魚を締める" related to? I'm having trouble with it. |

Comments: | from the first link:延べ竿とは、ラインを通すガイドの付いていないロッドのことです。 from the second link: 延べ竿(のべ竿)とは、竿先にそのまま糸を結んで使う釣竿の総称。 the third link visually shows the difference, also the other links I've found and the images results from google image all agree that the fact it doesn't use a reel or guide and that the line is linked to the tip is what sets it apart The second link also go on on saying: 元々は継ぎがなく、竹などのを用いた1本の釣り竿のことを指し、リールを取り付ける部分や、糸を通すガイドはありません。現在では技術の進歩とともに、伸縮できる振出タイプになっています。 Therefore I tend to believe that even the j-j entry from the dictionaries are not up to date with this item |
